Hi everyone,I've always liked 240SX's because they're sporty, RWD and can be well modified. I live in California and am currently looking at 240's. This weekend I will be going to look at a '90 240SX for the second time. It looks to be in excellent condition. It has automatic transmission, stock engine with 92,000 miles, etc. It's gray with gray interior. The car was owned by a college girl, so it's bone stock which is what I'm looking for. I would greatly appreciate some of your help in looking at these cars. What should I be looking for? Are there any known problems? How strong is the drivetrain? How long can I expect the engine to last if it's well maintained and driven easy? The owner is asking $3100. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys for the help.

sweet, 92k miles is basically new for a 240. there shouldn't be anything really wrong with the car yet. in california you should be able to find almost any type of 240 you'd want though. as in, a 240 with a manual transmission. you might not care right now, but believe me you will.

!!! no way! finding a manual that is in good condition with low miles is next to impossible... at least in Northern California. I know first hand...

i agree, 92k miles is fairly low, especially low when you consider that is is a 13 year old car. the price is high relative to what people are getting it for in other states, but in California, 3 grand for a 240 of that condition is quite reasonable.

if the automatic doesn't bother you, go for it. otherwise, be patient and wait for the 5spd...

sounds like a great find. mine is an auto, and i hate it. it was fun at first, but now the auto is just plain boring. i'm planning on swapping trannies next year. but i would definately try and snatch that car up, because of the low miles, and its been well maintained. good find

Hey guys,Thanks for the quick replies. To be honest the car's not exactly for me. It's going to be mostly driven by my sister who just got her license. I know this sounds kind of bad because a 240 should never be subjected to that, but I like the idea of a 240 in the family. If I were getting a 240, I'd put a SR20DET in with a 5sp etc, and drift with it, but since it's mainly for my sister, an auto would be best:( . I personally hate auto's.But I'm still wondering about the reliability and maintenance on the car. Are there any known problems with these cars? What should I be looking for next time I go look at it? I greatly appreciate the help guys, and maybe if we get the car, I'll be on here more often:) .

when i was researching 240's, for the 89-90 year model, the most notable problem was the timing chain and timing chain tensioners. check for a rattling sound. i believe timing chains should generally be checked between 100k - 120k, you're getting close, but probably ok for now.

it's cool that you're researching the car for your sister, it doesn't sound bad at all. whether you get a 5spd or an auto, the 240 is a fun car and i'm sure you and your sister would enjoy it. if she's going to be the primary driver, make sure she test drives it first. it's a harsh ride, and won't suit everyone.

Rest assured my sister is gonna get a 240...or at least a Nissan. I'm gonna teach her how to drive a manual soon (15, 2 years before she get a liscense) so that way she will be able to drive good when she gets a car. Plus she is gonna have more money that me to buy one...

Good choice for you sister.
