Hey all, looking for a second car and I'm really liking the 06-07 M45 Sport. Found one for around 7500 with 175k on it. All the work was done at Infiniti, I'm just wondering how this motor and other mechanical parts will be with that mileage. Anything to look out for? Any thoughts about the price and mileage? Thanks guys!

Welcome to the site.

The V8's were known to have oil consumption issues with some people also having the motors going bad (likely related). Just something worth looking into. Otherwise, the M's (V6 or V8) are very good cars IMO (I'm on my second one).

Check the drivers seat for rocking or looseness. This is a weak spot on these cars.

Is that an easy fix? Thought I read somewhere it was an expensive fix but I can't imagine how.

The issue with the seat (if it happens) is the actual seat rail. There are welds in the rail that break away. As you already suspect, the cost of a new rail is well over $1000. The seat can be removed from the car and a new weld can be done assuming you find a welder who can do it for you.

The oil burning issue seems to happen more often which would require frequent oil level monitoring.
The main concern for a car with high mileage is repairs. You have to consider that this car has reached the age and mileage where repairs will be frequent and expensive - suspension, A/C, radiator, sunroof, etc. Even if the car was maintained at the dealer and all required services are up to date, the car is at the age where electronics and sensors will also begin to fail. As long as you will be OK with these costs, I say but it.

If it hasn't happened already at 175k, it's not gonna happen. The piston ring supplier had issues for a while.

+1 on the oil consumption..I have to put a quart in about every month on mine..
+1 on the sensor issues..so far not too bad but when your SES light comes on it gets your blood pressure up!

As far as the motors going bad and being related to oil consumption, the first time I changed the oil myself on the car I drove it up on ramps and the oil light came on for 2 seconds before I shut the car off. When I drained the oil, TWO QUARTS of oil came out..yes TWO QUARTS. I honestly thought there was another drain plug somewhere...well after some heavy heart pounding I changed the filter, put 5+ quarts back in and started it back up and got it off the ramps. I checked the oil on a level surface and sure enough-right in the middle of the fill line. I truly believe I had a guardian angel on my shoulder that day and completely dodged a bullet. I think the oil sump is right at the bottom of the pan and I had just enough oil to cycle through the engine and had it gone one more day, I probably wouldn't be posting on this forum...

Thanks for all the input, guys!

I'm also looking at a 2010 Genesis Sedan with the 4.6 in it, 1 owner, ~170k for 7500. Has the Tech package and it's fully loaded. More HP, more features, better MPG than the M45 I'm looking at. So I'm kinda torn lol

I don't have any Hyundai experience, but I'll go out on a limb and say I'd assume an Infiniti is probably built better than a Hyundai, and long term reliability would probably be better, as well as resale. I know Hyundai makes a good car, but I think it's going to be easier to sell a 200+k mile Infiniti than it would be an equal mileage Hyundai.

Can't speak for the Genesis or their newest cars, but I generally don't like the way any Hyundai drives.

As far as oil, I have an odometer reminder every 1500 miles, pretty close to a quart each time.
The questions is whether a prior owner let it drop wayyy too far down - and if they used synthetic vs conventional
(synthetics are much better at maintaining a film at low oil pressures )

As far as engine damage, all you can really do is listen to the engine, or get someone experienced listen for you.

The M35x is quicker than the M45 - lower gearing and gobs of traction :)
