Buying a used turbo is like buying used underwaer. Probably not something you want to do.

First you need to know if the turbo is the right size, and has the right trim for what you're looking to accomplish.

Also, with used turbos, you never know how well it was used. Did they have a turbo timer, or was the car left running to cool for a minute before shutting off? If not, then it could have a little bit of baked in oil.

Was it overspooled regularly (too small of a turbo on too big an engine)?

These are all things you should think about before buying one.

If you do turbo your G, you want it to last. Worst thing (aside of throwing a rod) is to have the turbo crap out after you get the car tuned to handle it.

100% agree with Bean...now a used supercharger is a bit safer. I recommend the Vortech.

If you're buying a used turbo off of a car that came with one from the factory, you'd be somewhat "safe". But since a turbo install on a G is an artform/headache, I'd just go buy a new one.

You might also look into other bolt-ons and weight-reduction.

Hellos,

I realize that you're thread was started with the idea of searching for A TURBO. A better approach would be to use a TURBO KIT. While no manufacturer makes a kit specific for the sedan, many people have modified turbo kits specific for the coupe to work on their sedan. My suggestion is to find a reputable shop/tuner that has intimate knowledge/experience with not only doing f/i on G35s, but also has in-house fabrication. Simply buying A TURBO, however, puts you well behind the ball, as ALL of the intercooler piping, etc, have to be made. With many manufacturers (GReddy, PowerLab, etc) making these kits for the coupe, 90% of the work is already done. Hope this helps. Good luck.
