Can anyone tell me where you can purchase struts for my 1999 Q45? Only place I have been able to find them is dealer. Seems like someone must make them.

KYB makes them. You can get KYB SR Specicals from Japan, perhaps through www.memoryfab.com if you have 8 weeks.

Otherwise, www.infinitipartsusa.com will sell you the KYB made for the FGY33.

Thanks for the information. What is the FGY33? I couldn't find them through KYB earlier.

FGY33 is the chassis code for the 2nd generation Q45 sold in North America. :)

Search around, we have covered this topic alot the last few weeks, the struts topic. The 2nd Gen Q like you have offers very few choices on new struts as pointed out above. If you have the electronticaly contolled ones (do you have a switch in the car to change the ride?) then if you want to keep this feature you have to buy the OEM struts, which BTW are made by KYB. If you do not have that feature OR you don't care about keeping that feature you can get the ones from MemoryFab, they are also KYB but are special imports into the US. If you try regular KYB dealers in the states they will show nothing for your car, nor will Goodyear, Pep Boys, Firestone, Sears etc. They just didn't make enough of this car to have Monroe and other crap brands product replacements.

The OEM will cost you more $$, the SR Specials fit perfectly and are stiffer than OEM, MUCH stiffer, but will also make the car handle a hell of a lot better. I have 3+ years on mine and would never go back to OEM. I have a 97' so no electronic issues.

I thought the same thing. You need to call them. They know the exact part as soon as you tell them what you are looking for. Takes eight weeks but they are better and much cheaper than the dealer.

You both, at the bare minimum, will need front strut bearings also. My guess is a whole lot more that has rubber in it.

You can order the strut boots and the strut mounts from IOS and the KYB's from Memory Fab. As stated above, they are better and cheaper than OEM, but Maxnix is correct that when you have it all pulled apart best to put everything back together with fresh parts.

No aftermarket for the Touring model unless you want to go with the coil-over kits you can get on eBay, but they are just about the same as OEM and are only manually adjustable. You are looking at about $2,000 for all four (exclusive of strut mount, strut bearing, bellows, etc.) I have a 1999 Q45t with 260,000 miles which I bought new at Orlando Infiniti in June 1999. I have needed struts for awhile, but kept putting it off because of the cost. Finally, I had to replace the right front one because I had a irritating noise from the strut bearing that was driving me crazy and made it embarrassing for anyone to ride in the car. So, I decided to replace the strut while I had everything apart. But boy did it need replaced, when i turned it upside down after removal, the rod just dropped right out. When you change the strut, you also want to change the stabilizer link (replaced those and the torsion bar rubber mounts at the same time). You can find the OEM struts at http://www.infinitipartsnet.com in Scottsdale, AZ. The staff there are great. Next after replacing my right front, i knew i needed the rear ones because at high speed the rear of car floated back and forth dangerously. Boy was i lucky. the rear ones are nearly impossible to find. I also found them at the same place. A lot easier to change the rear ones than the front, primarily because of compressing the spring on the front i had to use two sets of spring compressors. Anyway, once i changed the rear ones it rode like a dream. Now, i am getting ready to order the left front as well as all the replacement parts. I also had to buy a used actuator as somehow i broke it changing the right front. be careful when reattaching it, dont over torque it or you could break the mount fitting. good luck!

Postscript, there are no more KYB SR specials to be had......so OEM or coilovers are the only solution.

Just dont assume the noise is coming from the strut. it could be the stabilizer link, the strut bearing, tension rod, etc.
