Hi all,

I purhased some 20" FX wheels for my M35x and I had assumed the TPMS came with rims/tires. After I had them installed I had my car aligned and ended up having the shop replace the front brakes because they were low. I noticed now that the tire warning light is on and the tire pressue reader is not reading the air pressure. Does this mean the rims do not have TPMS? Any way to test this? Should I try to unplug the battery? I don't know if this is related but after I had the work done the sunroof does not open properly. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You should be able to tell easily if your new wheels have TPMS sensors installed by looking at the valve stems. If there are sensors installed they will not automatically work, you will need to go to the dealer to have them reset.

....ah yeah, you kind of forgot to tell him exactly what to look for at the valve stems, especially since it's kind of clear he doesn't know what to look for. Let me know as well please for general knowledge.

you can see your sensors from the valve stems !, they arent rubber or chrome , im at my work computer so i cant post a pik ! run a couple of miles on it and if it does have it it should register! mine is a little faster i roll for about a block and it shows up again !

Correct me if I'm wrong but this looks like the valve stem of the tpms, the part that is AROUND what would regularly be the standard valve stem...it simply looks thicker...you can see the part a wrench would fit on just below the valve cover.

Dang, they do not have them. I have heard new TPMS go for around ~$40 each? I wonder if it would be worth having them taken off my old set of rims.

The place I got my wheels from are charging $40 bucks to transfer the TPMS to the new wheels. Better then having to buy new ones and have the reprogrammed =)

Ludawg you shouldnt have to pay for them taking it off your old rim, they were supposed to do that in the first place when they put the new rims on ! but yah putting your old ones on are better then buying new ones !
