Hello,

First post here, not a newb to forums or modifying cars, especially turbo cars. Daily member at z31.com forum. I have a 88 300zx Turbo with many mods, still stock .63/.63 turbo and tuning but toss a little nitrous, and were in the 12's.

Anyways, im interested in the S13, want a little more information about the aftermarket support, reliability issues, popular upgrades, etc.

Pros and Cons of KA24DE and KA24E?Capabilities of their bottom ends?Strength issues of trannies? Different transmissions available throughout years?Whats the best bang for the buck? What parts are most popular when turboing the 240?

I will be fabbing my turbo manifold myself, and probably just using a stock Z31 .63/.60 for a while.

Im just trying to get a feel for what issues people run into when modifying, what kind of tuning is used besides a standalone. And what parts are the best bang for the buck.

All views and replies appreciated, thanks

its reliable, its supported, its popular, and anything can think of has already been upgraded by somebody somewhere and if you pay enough coin, you can prolly buy a kit on yahoo japan.bottom end has been used up to and over 400 hp. wouldn't do that on a pumpgas daily driver though, just like any other motor. factory rods are forged so they are stout. trannies are damn near bulletproof, take 500 hp, whatever, and you can a "new" used one for 50 bucks if you happen to blow yours up. were the same for all years. what parts are popular? wtf are you talkin about? intercoolers, turbos, manifolds, injectors, and ECU upgrades are high up there on most people's list, of course.

The aftermarket for the KA (as far as turbo stuff goes) is decent and growing.

KA is quite stout, as andrave said, and Ivan managed around 400hp at the wheels before he cracked a ring land. I'd say pistons are the weak link, the rest is pretty damn strong.

The Jim Wolf Technology (JWT) ECU tune is a popular as far as tuning goes. It's not cheap, and it runs rich to keep from blowing **** up, but it's pretty much plug and play.

No major difference in the transmissions for any 240SX and they're quite competent.

Walbro fuel pumps, Z32 MAF and bigger injectors are common items.
