It's time for a new (or new to me!) car and I really am interested in a G35. I have a friend with a coupe that loves his and I'm looking for a sedan. I'm in Wisconsin, so the AWD would be a plus, but not totally necessary, I can deal with snow. From what I've read on here and other places, it sounds like the 2005 or newer is better, any particular reasons for this, especially as far as reliabilty? How about the AWD X model, does the AWD system ever cause any trouble? I have also read some complaints about these cars going through a lot of expensive brakes, is that correct, or overblown? One car I found is a 2004 G35X with under 30,000 miles for under $15K, sounds like a decent deal, not a fire sale, but decent. I'm not necessarily looking to mod the car, I just like them and wouldn't mind driving one. Any pre-purchase advice is much appreciated!

Welcome to NICO!!

Yes...you want an 05 or newer. That way you will have the "Rev up" engine.

Check some of these threads I searched for you...theres more if you look...

And what is the benefit (or benefits) of the Rev Up engine? I should clarify that for me, this car will be my daily driver, I love the idea that its like a sports car under the sedan body, but I'm not looking to mod it, I'm mainly concerned about reliabilty, ease of ownership, etc. like not having a car that needs to be worked over every few weeks or months. (I have a classic Mercedes SL that keeps the local mechanics quite busy!) So, if the difference in the pre 05 vs the "Rev Up" engine is a few extra hp or a somewhat racier motor, that doesn't matter to me much. If the difference is a more reliable motor, that makes a big difference. Are there any other differences in the cars that would make me really want an 05 or newer, as far as reliabilty goes? Thanks!

Just picked up an '06 G35x w/Nav a few weeks ago... it's awesome and everytime you turn it on it pumps you up with the rev of the engine!

As far as pre-purchase advice.... be careful with the "Certified Pre-Owned" program as far as how it's represented to you by the dealer... I literally got 3 differant stories from the seperate dealerships (all true Infiniti showrooms, no 3rd party vendors) .... I chalk some of it up to the salesperson just not understanding their own program and others just being shiesters....

So here it is:

- Original Warranty on an 2006 model = 4yrs/60k b2b

- "Certified" pre-owned warranty = 6yrs/100k (from in-service date) comprehensive but NOT b2b warranty... there is a $50 deductible for parts.... obviously whatever you have left under the the new car warranty would apply up to the 4th year or 60thK mile: http://www.infinitiusa.com/pre-owned/warranty.html#

- Here is the SHAM.... there is an "Elite" warranty program which you can purchase at an additional cost (only on "certified cars and usually for $1,000-$1,500) which gives you a full complete "NEW CAR" warranty for the 6yrs/100k from in service date with $0 deductible for parts... like said, it's a "new car" warranty.... BUT what certain dealers do is include the "Elite" plan in the price of the car and charge you MUCH more than the cost of purchasing it seperatly (at your own choosing) ... So that's why there can be drastic differances in prices of the same "Certified Pre-Owned" car......
