Yes I know"SEARCH" , but hear me out anyway ( I'll read the sticky's when I have more time to sit in front of my computer). I recently came to the conclusion that doing an SR swap the way I want it done would be pretty damn pricey ( $8,000 notch top, all the power goodies, radiator, install auto to manual conversion and some other stuff ) so my next best step is to look at buying a low mileage KA24DE and fortifying it for boost. Here is the current plan: Use ARP rod bolts, main bolts and stud kit as well as a metal head gasket to keep it together under pressure. Replace timing set and oil pump ( good maintnance stuff while motor is not in the car ) and install a set of cams and adjustable gears ( I think I read somewhere that the early model KA cams were more powerfull). Boost it with a Greddy turbo kit and front mount intercooler ( I like it because of the price and the comprehensivness of the kit ) and add a type RS BOV and turbo timer. I am picking up the 5-speed transmission this weekend so the plan for that is stage two clutch and lightweight flywheel that will be used when the turbo KA goes in next summer. I figure that setup with good tuning should be good for around 250 to the wheels at 10 psi. Again, when I get more time I'll pour over the data in the sticky and on other boards but for now fire me back some info and comments, thanks.

For the price of everything you listed, you could probably have a home-brewed setup making 300+ HP... I say probably because is depends on your skillz....

Exactly how much power do you want in the end? I can help you get 350WHP without even lifting the head off the motor. Unless it's already jacked up.

I am planning on buying a seperate motor and building it up over the next year to put in next summer ( mostly for money reasons ) so having it out of the car isn't really an issue. Does i sound like that motor setup will handle 10psi. or more with out issue? Better question, will the greddy 20g be effective past 10 psi.? Keep in mind I need day to day reliability ( by that I mean I don't want to run 18 psi. on the ragged edge of disaster all the time) and durability so I am not sacrificing the things that keep it in check. Thanks for the advice and info, keep it coming

BTW, will a KA with the same horsepower as an SR run similar times in the 1/4 mile or are they different due to the shape of the power curve and rev limitations?

Nope, they will not run about the same 1/4 mile times with the same horsepower. The ka24de will be faster b/c of the .4 extra liters allows it to have more torque than the sr20det motor. A ka motor with 350hp will be faster than an sr with 350hp b/c the ka will have around 360ft/lbs torque where the sr will have around 320. Horsepower wins dyno competitions, but torque wins races.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I might take you up on that in the next few months.
