The ride quality will be degraded no matter your tire selection. The taller the sidewalls the better the ride quality. You can't go with much larger tires because then you will start to rub (without any modifications to the body). Also keep in mind that taller sidewalls will also reduce your chance of bending a rim and blowing a tire. If there are lots of potholes or large bumps in the roads then you definitely want taller sidewalls. My brother has really thin tires (which is a horrible idea in Jersey) and he has replaced seven tires within the last six months. Most tire retailers offer tire insurance which is well worth the cost as it has only cost him $50 to replace each blown tire. One positive aspect to thinner tires is they increase your vehicles responsiveness, which is a moot point in an SUV such as the Pathfinder/QX4.
