I need an engine for my s13 and I'm wanting to put in an rb20det.

The good places to get engine sets and clips seems to change weekly, so for this week...

Is venus the cheapest way to go, and will their motorset be ok?Or what about JHOT on ebay? anyone ever deal with them? There are a couple others on ebay too. I know to avoid the washington area ones though. What about the "NAD" auto listed right below the banner add at the top of the page? How are their motors? Why no prices listed on the page?

Better yet, does anyone on here sell compression checked rb20det engine sets or front clips at reasonable prices? Or maybe someone wants to go rb25det and would sell me their slightly broken in rb20det?

BTW I want to make sure and get a hicas power steering pump when I buy one as I would like to retain the hicas on my s13.

Thanks!

Stay away from the washington area ??? Wha ?

If you're interested in buying one from washington let me know, I'll make a trip to check it out before you buy it if it's within a hundred miles or less. Just give me a few bucks, no problem. Seattle, renton, olympia, everett, kirkland, etc.

I bought from venus, I like them.

How about these guys?

They are in Washington.

Did Venus do a compression check for you and give you the results before you bought the motor?

What about buying from venus, and useing the money I saved to pull everything apart and put in forged pistons and new rings. Then I'll know it has good compression. Ill practice on my bad KA first lol.

I got my motorset from dragdriftautox.com and was happy. Got pics and compression results before it shipped. I would definitely buy from them again.

I wouldn't be concerned about the Washington area in general. There are a few bad apples in any market. I have heard a couple stories as well, in fact one guy from Vancouver, BC that was a huge rip off artist. But the Pac. NW is not all bad. In fact... Two have been mentioned here already that I know personally, and can strongly recommend.

Call Luis at DDX - he is awesome. He drives a RB20 swapped S13 fastback. Nice car! I bought my clip from him, and they (He and Robert) did the swap for me. I would definitely recommend DDX. I wish Luis was around here on the forums more.. he really knows his stuff. His name online here is Vududoc. There pricing was good for the clip. The price for install was untouchable. He has really been helpful to me since the swap as well with tech support and stuff. Turned out we had a bad water pump, so he even sent me a new water pump at no charge. He offers a very good warranty as well if you have problems with the clip that are not your own doing. He always is available to help if you have questions during or afterwards.

Call Garrett Hoboy at Automotive-Advantage. 360-542-1272AA is a great shop as well. They have a different source for engines than most. They don't buy wrecked cars out of junkyards... they get them used and running at auctions and source much higher quality clips. They have pictures of the source car the day they buy it as well, so you can definitely feel good about where it came from.I actually talked to Garrett today. They have 5 RB20's 5spd clips in stock already done with customs ready to ship out. You could have it in a week. Ask for the one with 70,000km (43,500 miles) that has VLSD included. They have an awesome warranty as well. If you tell him that Seth told you to call.. he might cut you a little better deal... maybe.

Venus might have some really good prices, but it is a gamble on quality... you just never know the history of that engine.

Has anyone else noticed that the prices of RB20's has come up a bit. I guess the dollar to yen rate has really changed. The Yen has gone up a ton lately.

Anyhow... Good luck with your shopping.

I'm sure they did, but I didn't get any specs on it. Compression checks don't prove to me that an engine will run perfectly, thus is why I didn't care.

I did my own comp check though, all cylinders were even. That doesn't tell me if a rod is bent, bearing is shot, or that there's uneven wear on a piston skirt..
