I'm thinking about buying myself a new(er) car, and the Spec V looks to be a pretty nice option.

Wondering what those of you who own one think about it? From what I've read, it has pretty bad torque steer, but never having driven one, I don't know how bad that really is.

So...if you own one of these, please let me know what you think about it.

Thanks!

what year are you looking to get? is it going to be an everyday driver or a project car? Torque steer is an issue on any car with a decent amount of torque and power taht is front wheel drive. I love driving my car unfortunately i had to spend extra time and money to insure its life span by removing the stock header and locktiting my butterfly screws in the intake manifold, other than that caviat its a fun car to own.

Where in Wisconsin are you from?

I used to own a spec V.. I really liked the car. The torque steer isn't that bad.. you get used to it and don't even notice. Wheel hop on the other hand.. that was bad..

It's a fun car.. handles really well. I'd buy another one someday.

I like my Spec V and I think it is a pretty decent car for the price. I haven't really had any major problems out of mine in the time that I have owned it since Dec '01. So I think that is pretty good considering I have autocrossed, drag raced, and traveled with it all over the east coast in that time.

The Spec V is a great car. A great performer stock and only gets better with mods.

Purchase one, you won't be dissappointed. I love it, I've had it about 6 months and its a car that you enjoy driving every time you get in it. And for the price, nothing is really comparable. I test drove a Corolla XRS (felt pretty slow, rubberband powerband, didn't handle very well, and I love Toyotas :P) a Celica GTS (same thing, handled a little better) a Civic Si (the ugly hatches, car was boring, did handle decently though) and the Spec won out. I didn't drive an RSX because the normal ones are pretty slow and the Type S is like, 17 - 18k USED, so yea, buy the Spec.

If you get a B15 Spec V (02-06), make sure you check the maintenance sticky at the top of the page and make sure all of the items related to the Spec are done, but other than that bit of preventative maintenance, they're great cars.

The spec-V is a great car. I have an 03 spec-v and I enjoy every bit of it especially since the performance parts are great. You can even get a S/C that can push more than 300whp. just imagine what you can also do with a turbo...

maybe you might want look into the new specv 07 also. The looks might not be as great as the 03 stock. But performance for that car is better than the new civic Si. check it out at edmunds.

gentleman, i had a question and wanted to see if you can all figure this out even though how much you love your nissan and scions, well i hear alot of talk how your spec v and tc's have more torque than the new 07 si and because of that they are better cars than the civic, but then again stock to stock the si (139lb torque) out performs both tc's and spec v (+160lb of torque), hmmm interesting, next also i hear how you gentlemans and ladies with tc's and spec v's could beat an si with i/e/h but then again dumbassess do the same to the civic si and dont you think you'll get an *** raping. n e how just alittle something for you to think about... reverse your thinking.... See my response in Gen Chat.

By the way, joining a board to be a jack*** is the most mature and useful thing a 23 year old could do with his time. Really, it is. I can't think of anything better.

First off, the caps don't really emphasize your points.

Secondly, even if you didn't intend to be a jack***, you still have no space to get annoyed that you were misinterpreted. Everything you said was antagonistic towards SE-R/Spec V owners and you actually advised that we bow down to the Si.

I post here a lot, yes. My point wasn't that posting on an automotive forum is pointless, my point was that being an antagonistic jerk just to get a rise out of people over the internet is one of the least useful things I can think of.

What do you call "wins in the end?" Is that a quarter mile time, slalom, road course, autocross, circuit race, what? The fact is that, on a track, both cars are close enough that it's pretty much down to driver skill. In the real world, the Spec has more space and the added torque makes clutch work in traffic easier. Meanwhile, by every account I've read, the Si has a better ride, though the best riding sport compact in this segment is the, admittedly more expensive, VW GTi.

yeah you do come off as a bit of an *** and Nametakennow is one of the most informed dudes on this board, FYI.

so that said, not everyone is a fanboi of the car they rock, i own an 02 spec and im a huge nissan critic (well of the QR25 anyway). it really comes down to styling. Performance wise they are roughly the same, the Torque advantage for the spec gets Nullified by its increased weight. The SI is lighter but slow in any RPM under 5k. If you like the Si styling go for it, if not get the Spec. Who wins in the ENd? Its a draw honestly, Spec takes off quicker, the SI has better top end, it catches up in the 1/4 mile. If you want to buy a car that can spank some random ricer on the street, Save up for a 350z or an STI.

i had an 02 spec v and i loved it. the car had so much torque to horsepower ratio. i had a bunch of work done to it. i would recomend going with the 2.5 model insted of the new 2.0
