I searched the forums and found a number of references to the mod, but no details on how to perform it. What I am really looking for here is a way to make some phony daytime running lights.

My first choice would be to leave the switch on the turn signal stalk on at all times and have the lights come on with the ignition. I would then like to be able to use the stalk switch to turn them off if necessary.

My second choice would be to bypass the stock switch and use an accessory switch tied to an ignition wire so they were on whenever we were running.

I am pretty comfortable under the hood and working with electrical, so I know I could figure this out, but it is easier to tap the experience of others first.

Additionally, if anyone has any good resources for wiring diagrams and color codes, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I've been searching, but forgot what the hell we were talking about. It's in this thread: zerothread?id=246458

and direct links to instructions:http://www.4x4parts.com/ubbthr...10524h ... e/727953/6

It's pretty easy. . basically, you take out the relay for the fog lights, open it up, solder a small piece of wire from one point to the next, then break off the tab on the bottom of the relay that's for switch power.

This works by itself, but you run the risk of leaving them on all the time. So what I did was then take out the relay for the AC, opened both up and drilled holes in the cases. . I ran wire through these, then soldered the switch powers together. The fogs only work when the vehicle is on.

You can also use a Radioshack relay, but mine crapped out so I started using the OEM ones.

The instructions make much more sense than my ramblings.

BTW. . works very well as a daytime running light this way. . you can run it with no other lights.

haha I screwed up when I wired to the AC switch power the first time. I ended up making it work, but I had to have fogs on to run the AC compressor. So I turn 'em on and I hear the AC click on. . pretty good stuff.

Sweet. Thanks for the reply. This mod couldn't be simpler! It reminds me of the mod I did on my pickup so all four headlights come on when the highbeams are activated. Prior to that, the low beams would turn off when the high beams were turned on.

Was it a GM? That really angers me. I mean, what's the point of having separate high beams if the lows shut off? Same thing here. . I like the extra light when my highs are on.

Hello Everyone,

I've tracked down a lot of information for mods for my 98 QX4 on NicoClub. Great information. Here is my QX4 posted on Cardomain. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2403369

Those pics are from 06 but will be posting all new pics next month with all the updated mods.

I'm trying to complete the Independent Fog Light Mod. The information talks about #85 but in the in the 98 Fog Light Relay our numbers are 1, 2, 3 & 4. Which number do I need to brake off?

I have a pictures of the Relay Diagrams that I can send. Any help will do.

Thanks

I dont know but I got a replacement relay at radio shack and it had the wiring schematic on the back of the box, made it really easy. If all else fails, you can just go to Radio shack, look in the relays section and take a camera phone picture of the back of the package.
