Post

hi, my name is dustin and i own a '90 240sx with the sr swap with bolt ons and other goodies

almost a year ago i had brake problems which forced me to park the car outside of a local Goodyear. while it was there it had the SAFC-II stolen along with my stereo and ((possibly other parts?)). shortly after that it was transported to another location to have another SAFC-II installed and have the brakes serviced. while at this location, the q45 MAF (90mm) was stolen and again((possibly other parts)).

after purchasing a new maf and installing it the car is running real choppy and cannot support boost. the shop that it is at right now says the 4th injector is faulty and backfires under boost and the car cant get up to speed. i dont know if it is tuning problems because it has 550cc injectors and it may not be getting the right air/fuel ratio or maybe something else is wrong.

anyways, the point of this post is a last ditch effort to find the fix to my problem or find someone in the Kansas City area to come look at it and help me fix my baby before i lose all hope and sell it.

please reply to this or contact me via phone or email

[email protected]

thanks, dustin

sounds to me like the maf is your problem.did you set the safc2 to the proper maf?

im not the actual person working on the car, it is @ executive performance in merriam, ks

he just informed me he is clueless to what else could be wrong with it other than a problem with injector 4 and im just trying to find answers so it doesnt rot outside of the shop due to no solutions. any input you guys give me will go straight to him but any and ALL advice will be greatly appreciated because i would cry if i had to part with my baby :'(

the voltage between the two mafs (stock and q45) are different.you said you had a safc2,which was prolly set already.so what im wonderin is if when the new maf and safc was installed, was the input voltage set on the safc2?

to check for a leaky injector, pull your fuel line up with all the lines connected and turn the key to the start position to allow the fuel pump to pressurize the lines and watch your injectors to see if any leak. I used to have a problem when under boost the car would studder and miss from too high of fuel pressure. Not sure if you have this problem or not.

I agree with Xero1...Good Year?

i would recommend starting back at the beginning. Get a friend and borrow some 370cc injectors and stock air meter and ecu and work your way back up to your tuning setting before your car was jacked. A decent sr swap and tuning shop will have all this equipment if you dont have SR buddies. This will allow you to re-tune and to find your problem, cause you are going to have to isolate it and right now we are all just guessing.

If you go back to stock form you will know very quickly if your problem lies in the motor or in the tuning, also you have pretty much assured me that you will have to get your car tuned anyway.

Take one day and set the car back to stock and then slowly begin to change parts and tune the car. As you start to change parts your problem will identify itself and you can correct it then. Right now there are too many unknowns for you to get really good advice.

Also whoever is checking your car should have taken or suggested this route already. The reason race cars are tuned dozens of times is because they check the gains and tuning of the motor after any new upgrades are made if there are problems they can isolate where the problem came from. Most of us shade-tree and street mechanics dont do that, but a pro will definately want to return the car back to the beginning, if it is running fine there then you can isolate the problem to the parts, if it is not then you will know that your problem lies elsewhere, and not in the tuning of your upgrades

AAlso you will also be able to get a real tune that will get you good numbers on your car and youll have piece of mind knowing that your baby is alright and if there are problems in the future you will be more equipped to deal with them yourself because youll know what parts modify the performance of your car in specific ways.

Whenever you loose your way, you go back to where you started from! Good Luck!

hah it wasnt getting any work done @ goodyear the brakes just went out and it was parked in their parking lot until i got it towed, otherwise i wouldnt have been liable and they would have had to pay to replace my ****

anyways im gonna run all this info past my man and see what he thinks i should do from here, and feel free to add more options for me to choose from when it comes to finding my problem

thanks for the help
