I'm not sure, if I'm writing this in the right place or not, so here goes.........

A 96' Sunfire with about 96,000+ miles, has a problem. The transmission will not go into reverse, and when you put it on a computer and put it in reverse it thinks it is in 1st gear not reverse. It will drive forward and it will not roll in neutral, had to be towed out of parking place.

Can anyone give any info as what can be wrong, or what could be done to fix this?????????????

if it's anything like a nissan a/t it goes into a fail safe mode where you're stuck in 3rd gear. either your transmission is failing or your transmission control unit (computer) is going crazy
