I have a 2009 Versa SL and have had battery/car not starting issues twice since I bought it. Both times it was after the car was left in the driveway and not not driven. The first time was two weeks but the last time was about 3 days. The dealership checked the battery the last time and said it was fine. Just looking to see if this is maybe a known problem or to see what could be causing the drain. I do have bluetooth and the stupid LED floor lights if that matters.

Any ideas would be great. I plan on dropping it off to the dealer and having it sit there a few days to see if the can reproduce.

ThanksChris

About 3 weeks after we bought our Versa in 2007 we also had a "dead" car. It was finally determined that we had a defective battery and it was replaced under warranty. No problems since then.

Sounds like something is draining yours, though. A very slow power drain somewhere. Maybe the LED installation wasn't done perfectly and two wires are touching somewhere causing the drain? Seems like a good mechanic should be able to hook the car up for a diagnostic and at least determine if such a drain exists, if not find the specific point of the drain.

Our current problem has to do with a slow water leak (car wash is too fast, it has to sit in the rain for a few hours) shorting out the beeper inside the door. We're waiting for parts right now. Perhaps rain or a car wash is leaking into something, leading to the power being drained. In our case the beeper was whining at us, but yours may be something that doesn't make noise.

There's my 2 cents worth. Anyone else with ideas?

There are certain steps to checking proper battery voltage that not everyone is aware of.

After running the car, turn on your high beams for 1 minute to get the surface charge off the battery, then check the battery voltage, this reading will give you the TRUE and ACTUAL battery condition.

Also, theres a way to check parasitic load (Load in which is still using battery power after the key is in the off position)

http://flashoffroad.com/electr...n.pdf

Read this cause it will give you a list of parasitic loads and ways to check whats causing the load.

What about the bluetooth? I noticed that when we turn the car off, the amber light is still on. I am wondering if there is something there? I was able to jump it with no problem this morning...just very annoying...

That sounds like the culprit to me. It's supposed to turn all the way off. That amber light shouldn't stay lit.

Turn off everything you can after shutting down your vehicle. Take out your Cig lighter accessories and so forth and check and see if thats your problem

Do you have the smart key?

Some folks don't turn the ignition all the way to the lock position & the electrical system remains on.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We do have the smart key and were wondering if we maybe weren't turning the car completely off. Something we will pay more attention to but it seemed like the car would beep if it wasn't off all the way.

As far as the cigarette lighter adapter goes, I thought there was no power to it when the car was off. We do have satellite radio plugged in. We can try to unplug that also and see if it helps.

I am still wondering about the bluetooth. I will ask the dealer if they know of any issues with the bluetooth not turning off.

Thanks againChris

My wife's V has B-tooth and smartkey. B-tooth lite always goes off when the car is off. If yours stays on I think it's a problem. Whenever I drive the car I almost always don't turn the switch all the way off and it always beeps. Remarkable how long it takes me to figure it out. Great humor for my wife though.

Actually I am wondering if the proper battery voltage test was done, that might be your problem.

The service department handed me some slip that they said was the results of the battery test the last time I had the problem. I plan on bringing it in on Friday. I am thinking it is the bluetooth. My wife has had the versa bluetooth pickup while the inside the house and the car was turned off!!! I will post back if/when I figure out the problem. Thanks!!

One final post, I brought the car back in to the dealer and they did more tests. They said there was some type of short in the battery and replaced it. We will see how it holds up. One oddity though, our satellite radio power adapter blows the fuse when plugged in. It did it to my Versa and my Mitsubishi Outlander. I am wondering if that might have caused some of the problems or the battery issues fried it.

Anyway, thanks for all the help!

Chris

Here is my experience for what it is worth: Last winter when driving the short 1/3 mile from the car wash to my garage, I would leave the driver's door open so that I would not have to deal with frozen latch/ weather stripping the next time that I needed the car. Well, the next time was six days later and with the ignition/start switch in the start position nothing happened. I had turned the dome light off figuring I would not have to deal with a dead battery on my next start attempt. Not so. It seems that the "smart" Versa sees the open door switch as a parasitic drain even with the dome light off. A short time on the trickle charger was enough to restore the start circuit. The Versa is able to detect when you leave your parking lights on and turns them off before completely draining the battery, in my versa about four minutes.. What I have just explained may not be relevant to your problem, but I think that you are right in looking for a source of parisitic drain. >>dl56zza

Just a final update. A month or so ago, the dealer replaced the battery saying that was the problem. Well we had the car sit for a few days again and it died. Had it towed again to the dealer and had them have it sit for two days before they started it. Well, wouldn't you know, it didn't start. They finally tracked down the source to a short in the bluetooth module (which I told them the last time I thought that was the issue).

So if your bluetooth light is on after you turn the car off, you have a bad bluetooth module.

Hope this helps!!!

Chris
