I'm looking for help in finding a good Q tech in the Chicago area. Recently bought my 3rd Q and have just finished knock sensors, all under plenum hoses, 8 injectors, plugs, upper links, struts, new trans, etc., but I'm not up for tackling chain guides myself and can't make it down to Atlanta in the near future. Car is a 1990 in awesome shape w/ 69k miles and I want to make sure it stays running great.

PS. Thanks for all the great advice (especially Wes and Dennis). Two dealerships could not diagnose the "chuggle" problem properly. Saw KSs could be the problem from some of the posts on NICO. Man, she runs nice after replacing them!

PSS. Dennis- injectors may not be an issue down your way, but I've replaced 28 of them between the 3 cars. Not all were bad,but often 3-4 would be gone at once and I learned the painful lesson to replace them all at once instead of pulling the plenum multiple times. Sure wish I had known about NICO and Wes' plenum job post the 1st time I tackled it.

Thanks,Paul

Hey Paul, i turned on my phone and I had 3 voicemails from you... Im sorry I had to turn my phone off, i was out of minutes for the month! :)

Let me know about the knock sensors, and if you got them taken care of.....

I think you might be up for the guides, its not as bad as you think... I *almost* think i could tackle it, as to me the hardest part is getting the crank off, and then making sure you secure the chains before you pull the guides... it doesnt look bad at all, after doing all that stuff I think you might be able to do it.....

I dont konw of anything there, but I might look for some sort of GOOD independent shop.. Or, a nissan dealer.. The older nissans had issues with the guides as well, and with a FSM they'd be able to tackle it...

If you could do the other things, the guides should be no problem.

Dream on, under plenum even knock sensors and injectors just require a good memory............lots of hoses and bolts.Changing the guides the easy way requires precision and meticulousness not usually found in techs.

Our Master Toyota techs won't do guides because of the risk. They will do it the oem factory way: pulling the valve covers but not the fast way.

You have to have done it and missed and destroyed an engine to fully understand. Few people like the 10-20-100% odds, after they have successfully done 20-30 the pressure is easier.

What scares me is the never done it before tech without some on site supervision. Who says how hard can it be.

You can't walk away till the process is complete [no bathroom breaks] sure as you do the slip will occur and you won't hear it.
