Hi , Can anyone say what they think a fair quote would be for parts + labor for rear struts replacement. They are making some nasty noises as of lately. I might also need work done on the front end as well , if anyone knows what that should cost.. Any insight would be appreciated. I'm calling 2 mechanics tomorrow to see what they quote. thanks

Depends on if they know what they are doing. If the spindle pin sticks you can pull the LCA. Once out it's a simple swap, just a bit messier if you still have the stock dampers, sometimes the gland nut can be a PITA.

I would recommend just going to craigslist and getting one of those mobile mechanics that are ASE certified. The shock install is pretty straight forward. I think I paid 200 dollars cash to get 4 shocks and springs installed. Most shops I called wanted 5-600. I tend to use those mobile mechanics for the easy jobs such as brakes etc. I could do them myself but sometimes its hard for me to get the free time.

Correct. They don't offer a warranty but realistically its pretty difficult to mess up a spring and shock install. I paid the money just because I didn't have the time to do it myself. Most of those mobile mechanics will install those kind of things for you. The good ones will show you that they are ASE certified. If its something like tune ups, brakes, or suspension work (as in replacement of parts) I have no problem with going with a mobile mechanic off craigslist. Once you find a good one it can be very beneficial. Mine moved away but I really haven't needed to do anything to my Z in a long time.

Another alternative is to check with the folks here and see if there's a local Z group that might be holding a Tech Day. I know we've hosted several here, where folks bring their cars and spend the day wrenching & doing projects on their car with the guidance of other, more experienced Z owners.
