I'm wondering if the ecu I have now is the correct one. Here is the pics of the one I have now. My goal this week is to buy the correct ecu for my blacktop and send it off to enthalopy. This car has been running real rich and has no power to it.

My Mods: Bov, pulley's, afc neo, greddy short ram, z32 maf, huge intercooler, 3" all the way.

So nico's, what is the best way to go right now? what ecu do i need? Thanx for all the help!!

Well I can tell you this, that ecu is for a black top 180sx type x model. I think the one you need is going to be a E5 ecu of the earlier black top model.

If the car starts and drives now. Then you have a J4 compliant harness, which is what matters most.

62,63, E5 and E6 are the sameJ4 is a different harness pinout.

So if its running NOW, then you need another J4. Its all about what series your motor is.

It is very hard to tell whether a block is early or late model blacktop. One trick is to look at the serial number on the alternator.

So obviously Type X is the best right? Is there anywhere else on the engine or other parts that would identify if the motor itself is a type x? Thanx tho! You learn something everyday but 5 times a day on nico! O- and is the turbo on the type x a t25 Whats the diff. of the type x?

I have a J4 ECU as well, but my SR doesn't turn over. The starter motor is going and the car barely makes a fart. There is fuel pressure, when I pulled out the fuel line after the filter and it shot out like crazy (walbro w/ Z32 fuel filter), but when I took out the spark plug I didn't see, smell, or feel any fuel on the plug. I also tried starting the car with the spark plug out and there's no spark. I think I'm missing a signal. A wiring harness came with my swap, but it was new and not from the original car. Do you think I could have had a wiring harness from an earlier car S13 with different pin outs. My J4 also looks beat up, and I heard that might be an issue. I've been stuck for months and my brother just got his EVO IX to 400whp

Just a little FYI, it's usually better to start your own thread than to necro rez one that has little bearing to your problem.

You need to change some of the pins on the harness plug. Its pretty easy if your not lazy like me. Here's what helped me

Next time search a lil more.

I got lazy and just bought a 62 ECU tuned by Mines. I thought it would be better since it's tuned for the mods I have. Hopefully my car will run now, I also need to bleed the clutch.
