I just bought a new laptop and the whole reason behind buying it was to get consult for the q45 and ive seen the ones off ebay for cheap but my question is will a consult 2 work on a 91 q? and has anyone had one of the ebay scanners for the computers and did it work? any suggestions would help me make my mind up.

Here is the one I got:

http://www.amazon.com/Nissan-Consult-Di ... ds=Consult

You will need an RS232 to usb adapter. The one I use is:

http://www.frys.com/product/5229677?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

You just have to make sure that the RS232 adapter has drivers for windows 7. When I get home on the weekend I can send you Nissan Datascan; I'm not sure which version it is, I think 1.52. This seems to be one of the best pieces of software. If you need a guide to get it to work I can post some instructions because you have to set the correct port number that the RS232/Serial adapter is listed as in windows. Other than that as long as the car is not an 'a' than I think everything works. I have a 94' so I dont see why it wont work.

I would skip anything that reqires an RS232 interface, and just get one that has a USB output. I have one that Wes sent me to "test" that works well... I can't remember where it came from though.

I know the real (dealer) Consult II is backwards combatible to Consult I, but I don't know for sure that the aftermartet ones are.

Eskimo- I have a spare OBD1 consult cable made by Blazt that I'm willing to sell. Blazt is also the company that sells Nissan Data Scan and the cable will work with any OBD1 Nissan consult program. It has the USB connection to go direct to your laptop so there's no messing with an adapter. Driver can be downloaded from the Blazt website for free.

Email me if your interested....... msg7941atcomcastdotnet

ECU Talk is free but you'll need to purchase any of the other programs. Do a NICO search for "OBD 1 consult programs" and you'll find thread listings all of the links available. I use Nissan Data Scan but the newest version doesn't work well on my 94Q but works fine on my 92Q. I'm not sure that you'll be able to get NDS to work unless you purchase it and they send you an activation code.

I found NDS here. You have to dl Ico's Link Decrypter 2.0, it's the first thing on the page, then put the code for the program you want (NDS) into the decrypter to generate a valid link.
The link below also contains a hell-of-a-lot-of other rare, useful automotive programs.

And yes, you need a driver for the usb adapter to work.
They usually come with the driver, loaded on one of those small cds.
