In a few days I'll have a my R33 bodykit finished. My max sits on 18's so the custom shop said that 1.3" would be low enough. Every coilovers I've looked at says it will drop 1.6" Any info on coilovers/springs and thier website would help. My shocks/struts are KYB.

You can either go with Ground Control (from Sport Compact Only) or Tein Basic (from Stillen) coilovers.

thanks for your help. this is my first project car so i'm learning little by little. i was looking at some sites and saw that the coilovers were different from the springs. if i already upgraded my shocks/struts so then i just need to add springs correct? i noticed the drop level can be up to 2.2" is there a way to adjust those by adding camber or bushings? thanks

What shocks/struts do you currently have? Looking at the picture of your car in your sig, I'd say you would be OK if you just got some Tein H-tech springs (if you're running shocks/struts designed for lowering). It'll give you a drop of approximately 1.5", but there are plenty of 4th gens running that setup with 18" wheels.

If you are set on coilovers, you're going to have to buy the complete system. Most of the coilovers have adjustable ride hight and adjustable spring rates.

I have KYB AGX shocks/struts in now but in the picture that you see was taking in October '05. I'm currently in Iraq so I don't have any current pictures. I have 5 days left though out of my 12 month tour so hopefully soon I'll be able to upload the new pictures. My car also comes out of shop with Dreamakers Kustoms, (www.dreamakerskustoms.com), by Friday. They are installing R33 bodykit, SLR fenders, and a new wing. They told me that with the bodykit I shouldn't drop it more than 1.3" I really wont know until I get back home to the U.S. next week. Do you know anyone who has the same bodykit who has drop thier car and what they had to do?

Yeah, I'm not sure with that particular body kit. I'm not sure if the shop's recommendation comes from the fender gap; or, more probably, due to the front piece of the body kit (clearence issues).

On a side note to you and all the guys/gals over there: Thank you for putting your lives on the line; and watch your six! Make sure all of you come back safe and sound.

Many many thanks for your support in this matter of being here. Last night one of our trucks on the convoy got destroyed by an IED, (roadside bomb), very thankful everyone made it back. Here is a picture of the front of the truck. The .50 Cal was melted to the truck but we can still fire the bitc* to light up the hodges. In the springs I'm looking at, (TEIN), they say they can be adjusted. Will I be able to do that myself or need a shop to do it for me?

Damn, that's some F'ed up stuff there. Glad everybody is OK.

What Teins are you looking at? The S-tech and H-tech springs are not adjustable.

Tein H-tech, Eibach Prokit and Progress springs all give about a 1.4~1.5" drop. These are all springs and are not adjustable. If you need height adjustability, you can get Ground Control coilover sleeves and run them with your KYB AGX. This would be the cheaper route, although I wouldn't personally recommend it (ride quality suffers). If you want to step up to a true coilover system, there's the Tein Basic, D2, K-Sport, Progress/Cattman...to name a few.

Jesus thats hard core. I would get some springs the reason the shop tells you 1.2 drop is because alot of shops try to give you 3 to 4 intches of room under the front bumper and side skirts for pot holes and such. Be carefull over there

I don't trust manufacturers drop ratings. My I30 was only supposed to drop 1.5" in the front it ended up being closer to 2.5" by the time the springs settled. Still looks nice
