Here is the information that my mechanic gave me:

He said I need to locate a right sided cam for my 2001 Nissan Xterra (XE - I believe). The one that runs the valve train and has a gear to run the distributor. The cam slides into the head. I believe it is an XE.

I also need the top end gasket set which covers the valves. He also said the cam off the left head.

Now I do not know what any of this means. Can someone please help me figure out what I am looking for and where I may be able to find one used? Or, what I should do?

Thanks,

I'm actually going to move this over to the general area for the Xterra, and rename this thread. When you figure out what you need for your car from the other members, you can start an actual WTB thread, in the WTB classifieds.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Sounds like you need a set of cams and gaskets. You should be able to get those at most parts stores and so should your mechanic.

Go new and skip used, timing belt also because you are that far into it already. Its worth the investment and should have you covered for 80,000 miles or so.

The problem is for some reason when I ask for a cam for my xterra the parts store is getting confused. Is there any way someone can post a picture of the cam, etc?

Thanks,

Kathi

If that parts store does not know what a cam shaft is I would go to another for the simple reason that they dont know there own butt $%^& from a hole in the ground.

Just my 2 cents.
