Ok guys, I know that this may have been asked here before, but Its too hard to look for an older thread. Heres the deal:

I have a 1990 240sx (Automatic ), totally stock with a K&N in the stock intake box. I want to replace the Cat with a straight pipe and get a cat back.

What im looking for is low-end performance primarily, if I get high-end, then great.

I already have an eye on some auctions on ebay for some straight pipes. I want to know if doing just a straight pipe with a stock exhaust does much performance gain. Also, is it necessary to have a sensor in the straight pipe? I havent looked to see if there is a sensor with the stock cat, but if there is, do I still need it with a straight pipe, since you can get a straight pipe with and without sensor holes.

Thanks for your help!!!

Don't ditch the cat. It will a) not really give you much of a gain over a high flow cat b) it will be loud as hell and c) it's not cool to be polluting the air.

I'd get a high flow cat like a Catco and a nice 2.5" catback system and call it a day.

Yup. Not worth the whatever fine you'll get if you get caught w/o a cat. Look at the top of the forum for the sticky on BRM exhausts.

How much louder does the straight pipe make it over a high flow cat?

Sound suckage for catless/resonatorless 4 bangers is VERY true. I know firsthand. =\

OK, heres the deal. I want to buy a straight pipe for sure, a high flow cat is just too much for me right now. I am looking for a stainless 2.25" straight pipe. It doesn't matter if it has hinges or not, because my current cat has none.

My question is: If I were to install a straight pipe, would it effect the rest of my engine in any way? Would the fuel injection and ECU work correctly afterwards? Thanks guys...
