So I've liked the Y34 for a long time now and I finally test drove one yesterday and its for sure going to be my next car. There are only 3 for sale in Houston and the one closes to me was way overpriced. 03, 81k miles, $22k. No a/c seats or voice recognition (both things i wanted) and the driver's seat didn't even work. Anyway, I told him he was asking too much and I left.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions (I've been reading the forum quite a lot the last couple of days).

Many of the ads for these cars say they have rain sensing wipers but I read through the owners manuals for 03 and 04 and didn't see anything about them.

The other thing I'm concerned about is the stereo. I currently have a Volvo S80 with a 9 speaker Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound and I think it's probably the best factory stereo in any car of that price range. How many speakers come on the M45 and is there a center channel?

That's about it, I have the feeling I"m going to have to drive to Dallas to get one, there is a dealer that has 5 of them... Thanks for your help,Veso

Yea, thats way to much money. There is a base model here in Albuquerque that has 60k miles and is going for 16k and in really good condition.

03-04 M did not have a rain sensor for the wipers. I go tmy fully loaded with everything and this was not an option offered.

The stock Bose system has 8 speakers and a subwoofer. It's average. I personally like mine and is sounds good at medium levels. If your looking to thump forget about it. Good luck installing aftermarket systems.

Check Carmax and places that can ship from other areas. For 22k you can probably get a loaded M with 50k in miles.

Thanks for the info. Not really looking for a lot of bass, I just want something that is very clear but I think that will probably work.

There is an awesome one on ebay, 04, nav, 50k miles for $20,but we'll see what I find. Thanks,Veso

Hello,Good call cutting bait on the 03' with 8x,xxx. I think you will love the car. Truly. That being said, the stock system will not compare to the PLII system in your Volvo. Bring some cd's and trust your ears. However, the stock system improves considerably with the addition of a aftermarket sub/amp. Relatively simple while keeping your car unscathed. The location of the CD changer is more convenient in the 04 being near the shifter as opposed to the glovebox in the 03. With six discs, not that big of a deal though.Good Luck,M.L

I like the black but really I don't care, I think everything looks great on this car. Red would be killer, I've seen a couple. But I'm waiting on my condo to sell first, so hopefully that won't take more than a month.

How much would an after market amp & sub costs & does it fit where the factory sub is installed? Can't wait to get one though!Veso

WOW! Thats alot of money. You can buy my o3' with 38K miles for 22K so I can get a Q45 for that amount. You should look around though. If you want one really bad think about flying somewhere to get one.

Hello, Hope your search is going well. Glad to hear you are going to travel North to check out more M's. I drove 750 miles to get the one I wanted. If you want the Nav/Technology package, hold off until you find one. My last car, I wanted nav but did not wait. I kicked myself for the entire time I had the car. Usually, when adding a sub, the stock "sub" is pulled allowing a real subwoofer to breathe into the passenger compartment. The new sub is almost always in the trunk along with the mono amp. A few members here have done some amazing things to their systems. Adding bass gives a foundation to music that is lacking otherwise in this system. Cheers,M.L

I'm also looking in buying an Y34. :D I found one ('03 black/tan) in my area that I plan on scheduling a test drive this weekend. I've read several threads in here that high oil consumption are a common problem with 2003 models. Is there anyway to detect this problem when I go for a test drive this weekend? Also, is there any other things I should be aware of?

I just don't want to make a mistake in purchasing a problematic vehicle. Even though, I read alot positive raves about the M45. Thanks all.

Hello,First off, recommend doing a search here on oil consumption. Truly not epidemic, though it has occurred. Get the VIN and go to the Infiniti dealer or call and hopefully they can give you what service history they have. Look at the oil cap to see if there is any gunk or varnishing. Check the dipstick, look at the oil for color and level.Good Luck,M.L

There are 283 03-04 M45s listed currently on Autotrader.com nationwide.

You'll need to travel to get the one you want. 1 yr ago I flew from Ga. to Oklahoma to get a 2004 that I wanted. Try to buy from a Nissan or Infiniti dealer.
