If you have a 03 or 04 sedan, you'll notice that your center pipe is big, ugly, and 50lbs. Wouldn't you love to have a pipe that was just 20lbs and relieved half the backpressure, releasing 10 hp and 3db of full throttle fun? Introducing... the FX35 Center Pipe! Bolts right in! Part Number 20300-CG000!!! for about $222.22!!!

Tools needed:14mm deep socket, 12mm socket, small prybar, lube, ratchet, if you have any friends, have one help, and a stress ball to squeeze if your exhaust is rusty and it aggravates you. Step one: Buy the pipe from somewhere.Step two: Lube all nuts, flange bolts, and a little on the exhaust hangers as well.Step 3: Remove nuts(5)Step 4: Carefully wiggle the center pipe out, make sure it doesn't fall and crack you on the head, prompting your fellow techs to laugh at you and see you crawl on the floor with a massive booboo on your cranium and a degree of shame only overshadowed by that horrible bathroom experience in middle school when that cute girl you wa.... Excuse me. Step 5: Remove the hanger on the passenger side. The FX pipe has just one. Then remove the driveshaft bracket. Step 6: Install FX pipe, and tighten nuts!Step 7: Your car should sound like this: Step 8: Crack open a Beer! And celebrate. Step 9:Hit the road. Then tell the road you're sorry but the hitting is nothing compared to the rubber you're about to melt into it. Step 10: Enjoy a factory pipe in your car. How does it sound? At Idle and cruise, indistinguishable from stock, except for a teeny bit more bass. At full throttle, a little louder and throatier. And when you downshift, nice muffled growling. The pipe has only a resonator, which prevents that funny crackle and rattle sound that you hear from guys who just replace the muffler with a straight pipe. Also, it keeps resonance from entering the cabin so the ride is still, like I said, as quiet as stock.

Questions? Comments? Ok. Class Dismissed.

Many people do this same thing with a G35 Coupe midpipe.

I loved dropping that heavy @ss resonator. The new sound was a ++ also.

yes. coupe pipe or fx pipe. but the FX pipe is cheaper by $60. And nearly identical. All I need now is the rear muffler to an 05 or 06 G sedan.

But, you can pick up a used coupe pipe fairly cheap if you look around. That's what I did. Think I paid $100 ??

Because compared to the 03 and 04 muffler, I can get another 3hp and shave another 3 lbs. The 05/06 Muffler is better.

Well said!

I was terribly amazed at the amount of weight underneath the G-35 coupe after I replaced all the exhaust system with after market systems.

yes it is. 10lbs lighter and less backpressure. But not as good as a coupe or FX pipe. Its somewhere in the middle.

Yes. Part Number 20300-CG000. It is the same thing as 20300-AM800, which is the pipe for a G coupe. They are literally the same thing. You can swap the center pipes between any year FX and any year G coupe and never know or see the difference.

ok..im new to this modding thing to the g35 seeing that i've recently just got one..and i heard that the coupe mid pipe made some difference on the sedan...but then i was directed to this thread and now im all confused again..im looking at the first picture with the 50lb center pipe (which im assuming is the aluminum colored part)??...and so when the pipes go from a 2-1 connection from the headers in the second picture, is the new FX part that you bought? and also..you basically took out that whole section shown in the first picture right?..i've never really been under the G sedan..ive only modded simple stuff like tint and tail lights..nothing performance oriented yet.

thanks for your help..

The first pic shows you the center pipe for a 03 or 04 Sedan. The second pic shows the center pipe installed where the first pipe used to be. The center pipe is easy to remove. 2 nuts in front, 2 brackets with hangers, and 2 nuts in the rear. Then you remove the tunnel shaft bracket and install your center pipe. The center pipe comes off a 03 to 07 coupe or FX. They are the same pipe.

I don't mean to bring back an old thread but did you do this mod yourself? Did you have a lift? I'm hoping to do it this weekend in my home garage with either jack stands or ramps.

How difficult was it to do?

i did this mod on my old 2005 g35x... sound is changed to the coupes note... i noticed a loss in lower end torque... but the mid and high end was improved. also gas milage was improved by having a freer flow. I got mine professionally done because my joints/bolts on the stock exhaust were rusted, so it had to be cut off. i watched the guy do my exhaust and he finished in less than 2 hrs even with having to cut my stock exhaust off.

Jack stands should be fine. You just need room to get under the car.

I am having trouble finding the 20300-CG000 or 20300-AM800 for under $300. I have found a used 20300-CD000. Would that work as well or is it different? I would appreciate any help!

I am replacing the stock mid muffler on my 2004 G35X. I has a hole in it and is getting pretty loud.
