What kind of after market clutches are you guys running?

What is the best bang for my buck...

I don't want to go with a OEM... I want something that can handle more abuse but also won't be too choppy when I have others in the car..

I'm running the Competition clutch stage 4 with the lightweight flywheel. http://www.forgedperformance.c...age=1

It grips like crazy but the lightweight flywheel makes the drivetrain noisy.

Search the forum for the threads.

Although the JWT is one of the lightest and that would help with performance, I would steer clear of that based on all the noise that people dislike.

Exedy makes a great clutch! Its expensive, like $2500 new. I saw someone selling one for $1500 though.

Since I don't have a 6MT I haven't researched much but I've heard godo things about that clutch and lots of noise complaints with the JWT.

I have the exact same clutch/flywheel as Joe. I personally don't think the noise is that bad. But the clutch is very grabby, and if you have never driven this style clutch before it will be hard to get used too.

I would recommend going with the ACT Clutch set that used their "street disk". I have seen them handle over 400+ wheel hp in AWD Eclipse's. And the engaugement is like stock. You may have a slightly stiffer pedal then stock, but nothing you can't live with.

I would either use ACT street lite flywheel or the Competition Clutch flywheel. Both are Chromoly, and are resurfaceable. JWT and Fidanza (which I have used) are aluminum and have replaceable friction surfaces.

And you can always go with the NISMO stuff. If you buy it at the dealer and have them install it, you get the warranty to go with it.

I would go with Forged Performance. That one, or the Competition Clutch stage 2 combo.

If you keep the stock flywheel, the noise will be the same as OEM...but you won't get the benefits of having a lightweight one.

and what is the benefit? Do you feel much more power? I hate the noise that it makes sometimes...

I am used to lexus quite when at idle and a faint note from the exhaust. I don't like diesel truck sounds lol.

The benefit is the car feels like a race car...acceleration is improved as you can increase the RPMs much faster with a lighter flywheel. Deceleration is also improved as the car will slow down faster too. However, the trade off is noise. The noise is caused by the transmission gear lash that is quieted by the dual-mass flywheel.

Think about what the flywheel does...the dual-mass design has springs and weights to dampen the drivetrain vibrations. These vibrations cause the gears to shudder thus causing noise.

So, do you want performance or quiet? If the sounds bother you, you can depress the clutch. (I do this at some drive-through windows)

Yes! It will be significantly quicker...enough for my butt accelerometer to notice. And you will no longer have the "clutch pedal sticks to the floor on 4k+ RPM launches" problem.

I'm installing a JWT clutch/flywheel combo for my friend in his 350Z tomorrow. I'll let you know how the car drives afterward.

$775 SHIPPED with new throwout bearing, clutch pivot ball, etc...

http://www.conceptzperformance.com check it out, can't beat the price.

The JWT clutch/flywheel combo seems really good after initial drive. Quicker engagement, very little noise...in fact, this was quieter than the stock clutch he had.

Still breaking in so no hard driving just yet, but so far its great. I'd recommend it based on my experience to this point.

Ok so should I go with the JWT combo or the Forged performance combo

I have to buy it tonight because my Car is going in to infiniti to get a new Motor and A new Transmission. My syncros have been grinding for 5k miles and the motor is consuming oil.

I need a answer fast!

Also on the website for the JWT combo it lists that it is for 07-08 g35's

Will that work for my sedan?

500 mile break-in is normal for a new clutch. Just don't do any hard engagements or excessive clutch slipping and you'll be fine.

The JWT combo is a great deal and works really well. I don't notice chatter in my friends Z unless we are stopped with the windows down. Clutch feel is much better and grips hard.

Oh and by the way...You need to check out the Motordyne exhausts for the sedan. Get the VQ setup (resonated midpipe and muffler). Its great. I LOVE IT. Sounds similar to my HKS + Coupe MP that I had but has much more power.
