well considering you are ona 240sx board, I would think most of us would say our 240sx's are pretty damn cool.

A used RX-7 is a money pit, but theyre SO nice otherwise.

I dont know what your style is, but if youre poor, an early 90s Maxima is cheap to own and operate -- and a hoot to drive.

Well, you are going to have to give more information here. Do you want it as a daily driver? two door? four door? awd? rwd? fwd? does it matter? looks? how much power output? 2 seater? 4 seater? good gas mileage? I could go on for days.

there's always the 300's or perhaps a pimptastic old school Z...(that's not recommended due to restoration costs, the Z's can be had in nice shape, well, the 31's anyway for about your price range. Any FC or MKIII in that range will probably be a turd)

Of the two choices you gave, assuming equal condition, the Supra might be a slightly better choice as it shoud be cheaper to repair if something breaks and the Supra has many more repair choices as not many mechanics will work on a rotory engine. Although both are obviously great fun to drive, both are clearly not a bargain to keep.

If you're on a limited budget, and $3K is limited, I would recommend goling with something more reliable with 4cyl motor which is FAR cheaper to keep, yet still fun to drive. Choices (in no special order) include Celica GTS, a 240SX, SE-R, Miata, prelude, Sube 2.5RS, 1st gen eclipse AWD turbo, etc. It sounds like you want a fun daily driver that won't bankrupt you. Well, you can have a lotta fun with 155hp. The Supra/RX7 are higher end cars, which means it takes a lot more $$ to live with them.

Remember low hp can be even more fun as hi hps, as you have to drive low hp better to keep up. In other words "enjoy the ride".

Hope that helps

i do like the 1st gen 300zx. im looking for somthing 2 door, rwd preferably. i think im gonna look into going to a junkyard and find a MKIII supra and fix it up. since i will probably get it for cheap and the engine damage it has will probably be a blown head gasket.

I suppose if you're doing the work yourself, that could be a fun (but expensive) project, but remember no one junks a MKIII Supra that needs only a head gasket. You're talking can of worms stuff. $3k will disappear quickly. Are you after a project car or a daily driver? Big difference.

If it's a project car, a Supra or a 300ZX might be fun. But if you're after a daily driver and money is tight, a junkyard reclamation is not a wisest way to go.

well i still have my 240sx, but i dont know how long it will last. i just was thinking if i get a car from a junkyard and slowly work on it for the next 6 months i could get a good deal on it. and i found a website that would sell me a used supra engin for $1,000.

Personally, I'm all about functional cars that work, rather than fast cars that don't. Something about being able to drive my car makes it pretty friggin' cool.

Get an SE-R, new 240, or Miata. Reliable. $3000 goes by quick when the car doesn't work.

if it's your thing I guess. As far as driving, I personally prefer the 240 to the NA Z32, I just feel it's more comfortable...

there's probably someone willing to buy the car on here if you want to sell it though.

Well as many others have already said, if you have a tight buget, the Supra or RX-7 is definately not the wisest route. Definately check into th cars mentioned. Especially the SE R. What a sleeper.

when u guys say SE-R u mean sentra right? i think im just gonna save some money and either get a really nice 240sx or a really nice 300zx turbo if i get the money. its just my 240sx has many dents and is just not worth the money to fix up right now.

Yea that's what we mean. You made a wise decision. with about 1K more you could pick up a pretty nice S13 or S14 if you're lucky. Try to stay away from the turbo Z unless you plan on spending $ on repairs.

Well, have you ever thought about an 88-89 Mazda 323 GTX? It's got AWD, a turbo 1.6L (same engine in the Miata, just mounted horizontally), and a very cheap price. Sport Compact Car had one as their project car awhile back...

damnit man! it's not made to pull boats!

perhaps a small truck and a 300ZX?

I cry when cool cars have tow hitches.

like the SC's, I've seen them with the rear valence horribly cut to allow the damn things on....so sad:(

I dunno about that, Mr1der. A few Audi club guys that have tow hitches on their TT's to pull small light custom trailers for carrying their track tires. Pretty clever. As far as towing a boat with a Z, you might want to check the owners manual, I doubt they have enough in the way of towing capacity to haul much more than a kayak.

this is a small boat, the 240sx could tow it. the thing doesnt weigh more than 300lbs. i mean i could have more weight if i had 2 friends sit in the car with me then if i was pulling a boat

Understand, but you might find the Z's towing capacity turn out to be less than the 240sx. I don't know. I'd still check that out before going thru with it.

I'd get something that's less of a money pit to begin with, but maybe I'm just overly worried about fiscal issues.

Don't get me wrong, a 300ZX Turbo is going to be a fun car, but it's not going to work all the time, and it's not going to be cheap to fix. If your budget is limited on buying the car, but maintenance is going to somehow be ultra cheap, all cool, but if not, I'd go more reliable. Also, if you're about to run into a bunch of money, and that's why you're not too worried about the amount of money spent on repairs, I'd wait till you got the money and buy something faster/newer/more reliable to begin with.
