I am looking for an external knock sensor to connect it to my bikirom, therefore it would be preferable if it works from 0 to 5 volts. Thanks Tona

the stock one is 0 to 5 volts but i would recommend a bmw knock sensor. the stock nissan knock sensor picks up too much engine noise. the bmw one only detects knock. there like 25 bucks from the dealer. if you want the part number i can get it for you tomorrow at work.

this is an awesome find cause nissan knock sensors are ~60 on ebay and don't work too well.

no mods needed. just unbolt your stock sensor. unplug the clip that is directly attached to the sensor. plug in bmw one and bolt it to the block. they are the same size and use the same clip. but the bmw ones are ten times better. they pick up no engine noise only knock.

its not a bosch unit. it is Siemens. and the sensors physical properties are identical. it just works better than the nissan one. its not to complicated. let me know if you want some pics or a further explanation

For the record, knock and noise are all harmonics. The knock sensor pics up noise or harmonics, that's how they work. It simply depends on the frequency of the knock or noise. So ANY and ALL knock sensors will pick up motor noise, it just depends on the frequency it takes for the sensor to generate a voltage signal.

That's why things like the MSD Knock Meter have an adjustable sensitivity knob to control how much freq the sensor will pickup.

it is amazing. bmw parts are expensive. i work at a bmw performance shop and some of the prices are rediculous.

very true but knock (detonation) has a certian freq. a piezoelectric sensor (knocksensor) can be tuned to pick up only a certian freq. like knock. so a good piezoelectric sensor that is tuned to the correct freq will work the best. not ALL sensors pick up engine noise.

Just go to the dealership or autozone etc. Anyone that carries BMW parts will have the knock sensor. Part numbers are also brand and model specific, so you don't need to worry about that. Most likely BMW uses the same knock sensor on almost all of there vehicles anyway.

ya it is a pain to get to with the stock intake mani. but its not imposible with a long extender and a long magnet and a little imagination, you can do it. it took me about 15 min. on the dyno with limited tools.
