As the title says I am looking for a good stand alone ecu. I have a TT kit sitting here at home and it is going to need a decent ecu to make it work as efficiently and reliably as I want it too.

I have only really seen info on 2 since I have been searching.

The haltech, which everyone seems to think is good.

And the utech, which most people seem to have problems with.

So basically I am wondering if there is any other ecu out there that I can get that will meet my needs or if I am going to be stuck with the haltech? Reason I want to know, is because it is obvious that the haltech is quite pricey.

What kind of kit did you get?

Buddy of mine that has the TT nismo is using his factory ECU with Uprev's osiris tune and cipher software. It works great, does just about as much as the utec.

You can chose between different maps using the cruise control switches on the steering wheel. Including a valet map which forbids the engine to past a set rpm range. Sort of sounds like a two step if you try it out.

I will definitely be selling them. But it will be a while. I am going to need to find a decent set of injectors and the ecu setup I want for my turbo kit before I install it and I will sell the headers after I install the turbo kit.

Maybe you could look into AEM's EMS, its fairly complex without being too complicated to the end user. Give them a call and ask a few questions there are others out there, but they are most likely just as expensive as the haltech.

I've seen the HKS Fcon on a few TT set-ups and most of them say its a good unit but has to be retuned alot

I have UTEC and haven't had any problems out of it and also have Deatschwerk injectors and they have been good so far.

Don't know much about the AEM

Haltech is pricey but their reputation and quality is the best I've seen

The problem with UTEC, at least in my area is that tuners are refusing to tune with them. The piggyback of choice is the cobb access port. Before making any decisions, decide on what you need in a tune. and go from there. Again The AEM is a nice unit It's worked well for me, Haltech I can not see being a problem. I don't know why HKS would have to keep being retuned. Have you looked into Apexi? Motech?

I can't give you a definite answer on what to go with just giving you options.
