My friend has a 2000 i30, motor stalls in reverse and sometimes runs rough, has a misfire code in #3. We used seafoam through the brake vacuum line, seemed to work for a few months however the problem is back. The guy he has working on it usually does older cars and thinks it needs a "head job." I'm thinking the car needs a valve adjustment. Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good tech around Vallejo-Concord-Martinez area that doesnt charge $160/hour.

Is there any way you guys can run compression yourselves? Usually its pretty simple and can cost you nothing if you loan the compression tool at your local O'Reilly's.
