Waterproof isn't usually a good idea, moisture collects underneath and clouds the paint.

For about $50-$60 there's a few sold at Autozone, and the $25 "budget" car cover I bought there has been surprisingly water resistant. I usually put it on if its going to rain and take it off when the storm is over. But I wouldnt leave a car cover on the whole time unless it was garaged, because of what 911/Q said. It might keep falling rain out and dirt off, but sort of like what happens when you hold a cola can on a hot summer day, moisture can collect.

Until then, Im waiting on my sister to move out.

One word: Covercraft. Costs more, but well worth it for a car like the Q.

Right the covercraft are made of Technolon or something like that. they are made to get wet but breath, you leave a cotton/poly one on in the rain and yuck, when it dries big mess. The Technolon is sorta waffly and it breaths so you can have it on in the rain and it can dry on the car.

Interesting thread. I may be changing jobs soon and forced to park in a lot instead of a deck. I attribute the great condition of my Q to years of being kept inside a garage probably at home and at work. Now that it will spend 1/2 its life outside, should I consider a cover?

Yup, the sun is not your friend. Seems like no matter how much you try the sun will kill. If you do not do a cover, what I found from my years living in AZ was tha towels are the best way to preserve the interior, I had my 300ZX there and covered EVERYTHING with towels and my leather on my 1984 is still in good shape.

If I were you, I'd drop the $$ for a cover. Not so much for the rainy days but for the sunny ones. Technalon is the only way to go, I have had 3 for my 84' Z although even that couldn't save me from a paint job in AZ (that and a slam from a Ford F-250 at Sky Harbor Airport).

They do work, are a pain sometimes, the technalon stuff is the way to go, repels rain, but allows moisture to evaporate from underneath.

One thing to consider about the concrete plant, when you fold it up, you'll have to figure out a way that you won't deposit outside stuff on the inside when you put it back on the next time.
