G'day all. I am currently looking at grabbing a certain '91 240sx se here in TX, but I'm trying to figure out the optimal price I should be shooting for. I've been doing as much research on 240's as I can, and now I'm hoping to get some people opinions.

Here's the known facts:----Normalish Stuff-----177xxx mi on the chassis~130k mi on the motor (was replaced with 80k on the motor at 120k; currently assuming owner put in a replacement ka, will know more when i look at it)Body appears in good condition (no obvious damage)Interior in good conditionHistory report is clean

---Unpleasant Stuff---Breaks need work (rotors turned, new pads)Clutch is "shot"Power steering needs looked at (still trying to get info here, will obviously know more when i look at it)Has rear spoiler (going to inspect closely for rust)

Seller is asking US$1,000 obo

SO, assuming the following:Motor is a replaced KANo structural rustClutch needs full replacePower steering is worst-case, like new rack or pump (could just be a line...)Needs a new hatch

What should I aim for going in to this? I'm thinking 850. This would be a second car and I can do much work myself (maybe not clutch, i hate dealing with transmissions). If the suggested work involved in getting this car back into shape puts me <$2000 total including car, I figure it's possibly a good deal.

Thoughts? I'm looking at it today or tomorrow, and will update with more info as I have it. Thanks in advance!

$1000 sounds awsome as starting price... u could probably haggle a little... When i bought my 240 my rear breaks were shot and i bought brand new rotors and pads all for $85.00 and installed them my self... as for the clutch u could get a good upgrade for about $200-$300 and resurface the flywheel... And for the power steering the problem could be many things as you said, but just search for a good deal for the part u need when u find out the problem...

So just haggle and get the parts for ur brakes from a local part store ( thats what i did) install it urself, buy a new clutch and take it to a legit shop and have them install it so that u only pay for labor...

So then you'd prob be putting about $500 into it

if its rust free and the engine runs great (compression test, and check for oil leaks) and the body is clean, straight, little to no dings/dents...i say you are in the right range for the problems listed. btw, who gets rotors turned these days? i thought that was something of my grandpas day? anyways, new brakes and rotors + new clutch parts will definatly give you a nice 240 under its value. even for 1k, id say go for it, but RUST FREE!
