My I30 is currently on its way out, so its time to start looking at new cars. I have always loved the g coupe and can finally afford a used one. Is there anything to look for besides the normal stuff. Any thing that the g needs to get replaced the the previous owner might have not done, or things that a prone to failure?

yes, the window accuaters break on 03-04 models. those need to get replaced. both of mine broke under warranty. these cars are for the most part extremely good and reliable. just remember if you do want brembos go for a manual.

oh also, get the performance tire package if you want tmps and id suggest getting the wing if it is 03-04. the 05 wing is ugly as hell IMO.

I wouldnt get it if it wasnt a 6speed, agree about the wing, maybe a trunk lip like what kenrik has. But for tires, i would have a summer set and then some blizzaks for the winter.

Thanks for the info on the actuators. Any others, suggestions?

never ever leave your lights in the auto position. it works, but when you turn off the vehicle the lights remain on and there is no warning sound (buzz) like there is when you leave the lights in the on position. idk if it is just the 04 model but damn it is a stupid over sight. to open the gas cap simply press down on it with the car unlocked (i know sounds stupid but took me a bit to figure this out). and make sure if they have locks on the wheels you have the key or they take them off, i got ****ed by this and enraged at the dealer lol.

mechanically these cars have little problems, you will find the vq35 takes a beating and keeps on going. as ****ed up as it sounds infiniti has a great new cpo program. if you can find a vehicle in warranty and in the cpo buy it from a dealer. i was shocked to see a 47,xxx mile 2004 g35 listed at 16,995 in charolette nc about 2 months ago. of course it had 17s but that is still a ridiculous price assuming you have some kind of negotiation skills.

on the lights, are you sure they arent set on a timer i know that some cars have timers for the auto lights. My girlfriends ex35 has the timer. And yea i have been getting awesome offers to buy from dealers which is out of the ordinary considering when i usually go to a dealership i get d!ck around because of my age.

when in Auto position and ignition turned off - those will light for like 30 secs as I may recall. There is a light sensor on the top of the dashboard.. driver side which sends signal when to turn lights on.

also... what about ppl reporting constant issues with tires? like 10k miles and those start to shake and become bumpy.. anyone has such bad experience?

I'm pretty sure the auto has a timer. You just have to lock the car and be patient.

The tire issue stems from two facts. 1) the camber settings on the Gs are very aggressive.

2) The stock tires are some of the softest road tires you can get.

Snwbrdr435,

Congrats on finally making the decision.

Go find an 05+ for peace of mine. 18" rims (only available on the auto) are the way to go. The 19s are hot, but tires are EXPENSIVE.

Decide whether you want the base model or premium package (auto lights, auto mirror, moon roof, auto steering wheel, NAV, Bose).

My light goes off after 30 secs when I turn the ignition off. Tires and wheels feel great. My wheels have been scratched--they scratch easily from small pebbles.

Best thing about the car is its ability to take unbelivable beating. Most cars that size would have had serious engine problems with the beating the car can take. The VQ engine is not the most powerful engine. But it is an engine that will get you to where you want, in a reliable fashion, under immense stress or usage.

Abuse is not a word associated with the G-35, unless you refuse to do normal maintenance on the car. The car will wear you out after hours of flogging it--it will make you sick of driving it becasue of its reliability, and you will beg to drive a smaller less powerful car.

Only issues with the car is small annoying stuff that go out or make funny noises---manual transmissions rattle or make funny clicking noises, front brakes wear out at about 18 or 19 K if driven hard, have to change differential oil routinely if driven hard, best to use synthetic which can be expensive, etc.

I suspect Nissan Engineers spent time on the reliability and performance and completely forgot about aesthetics and other small stuff that sensitive human beings would generally note as problems. The car is absolutely a blast to drive. Just my 2 cents.

I dont really need all of those features, nav would be nice but if i ever need it i always have my gps. Bose in my opinion kinda sucks and I like the 18s better then the 19s. I have started my search and can't wait to pick one up. Thanks for the help

edit- Also i am planning on getting a clear bra, dont want to have scratches all over

Add in another $300-$1000 for the paint touch up. Then around $800 for the bra and installation.

Installing the bra over old chipped paint is pointless.

18s is the way to go especially here in Chi town. I like the way 18' wheels look.
