well iv been looking into getting a g35 probably an 03-04 coupe 6spd

Il probably get an acsessport but im wondering when tuning becomes necessary?

with a popcharger, z-tube, spacer and cat-back will the engine run fine? or do they run ruff at a certain point/learn around the mods?

and im guessing FI=tune needed?

and just curious a stock G35 6spd coupe makes 210-220 RWHP right? Around what RWHP would be made with a popcharger, z-tube, spacer and cat-back?

Come buy mine instead and it will likely make more than a HEAVILY modded 03-04. Last dyno dynamics run put down 273 rwhp

And I only have what's in my sig.

Why? dont all 03-06 v6's make nearly the same HP and TQ? I like the 03-04's cuz of the brembos and the aero package, and there cheaper.

What year is urs? a lower plenum and k&n give u a 50HP Increase?

Welcome to Nate's G35 crash course (no pun intended). Please have a seat and we'll begin...

03-04 G35s were rated at 280hp to the crank in both manual and automatic forms (sedans were rated as producing 260 hp, but there is a general belief that that was a marketing lie).

In 2005 a shift occured. The manual (now referred to as 6MT) was partially redesigned. The "new" engine referred to as "rev-up" had beefed up internals and variable intake AND exhaust timing (versus just variable intake timing on the non rev-up).

This made two significant changes:

TQ/HP

and

Redline

The rev-up engine supposedly spools up faster than the non rev-up. It has a lower peak TQ of 260 ft-lbs, but has a higher mean TQ and higher HP of 298 hp.

The redline was also increased to 7000 RPMs versus the 6600 on the non rev-up.

As for my mods. The aftermarket clutch/flywheel makes a bigger difference than the other mods because it allows more power to be applied to the wheels instead of being applied to accelerating the dual mass OEM setup.

I also believe that I just have an exceptional engine. When talking to a tuner at the last dyno day, he said he was surprised at the peak power produced (286 to the rear hubs) because he had the same year and with mods and tune, it peaked out lower.

One more thing regarding "Nate's G35 Crash Course"...

The 03-04 Gs had massively under sized brakes and suffered from premature brake wear and heavy dust (going aftermarket helped this some). In 05, new LARGER brakes were designed for the coupe and sedan (minus AWD model which kept the anemic brakes).

I personally wanted the Brembos too, but I think they're overrated and the newer larger brakes do a great job.

ok thx I always though it was gay having a drop it tq with the new engines but they have a lot better tq curve is what your saying?

also with better internals that would=less likely to break something when going FI?

so ur saying the 05-06 brakes are just as good as the brembos? I know they increased the rotor diameter like and inch in 05

My reasoning for going with an 05 was for the following:

Better engine (though it is suseptible to oil consumption) - Better Peak HP and better TQ curve

Larger Brakes (they look about the same size as the Brembos)

from what i have read on this forum there is not much left to tune in the VQ until you go FI or get after market headers... all these other cars that benifit from the Cobb port the most are FI... and are just turning up the psi and then tuning the a/f mixture for that psi...

someone correct me if im wrong...
