What year is urs? a lower plenum and k&n give u a 50HP Increase?
Welcome to Nate's G35 crash course (no pun intended). Please have a seat and we'll begin...
03-04 G35s were rated at 280hp to the crank in both manual and automatic forms (sedans were rated as producing 260 hp, but there is a general belief that that was a marketing lie).
In 2005 a shift occured. The manual (now referred to as 6MT) was partially redesigned. The "new" engine referred to as "rev-up" had beefed up internals and variable intake AND exhaust timing (versus just variable intake timing on the non rev-up).
This made two significant changes:
TQ/HP
and
Redline
The rev-up engine supposedly spools up faster than the non rev-up. It has a lower peak TQ of 260 ft-lbs, but has a higher mean TQ and higher HP of 298 hp.
The redline was also increased to 7000 RPMs versus the 6600 on the non rev-up.
As for my mods. The aftermarket clutch/flywheel makes a bigger difference than the other mods because it allows more power to be applied to the wheels instead of being applied to accelerating the dual mass OEM setup.
I also believe that I just have an exceptional engine. When talking to a tuner at the last dyno day, he said he was surprised at the peak power produced (286 to the rear hubs) because he had the same year and with mods and tune, it peaked out lower.
One more thing regarding "Nate's G35 Crash Course"...
The 03-04 Gs had massively under sized brakes and suffered from premature brake wear and heavy dust (going aftermarket helped this some). In 05, new LARGER brakes were designed for the coupe and sedan (minus AWD model which kept the anemic brakes).
I personally wanted the Brembos too, but I think they're overrated and the newer larger brakes do a great job.
