the L24 is the smallest domestic variant of the Datsun L6 engines, they tend to last about 300k and don't tend to leak oil untill they have been rebuild had the headgasket redone or some other major work, the will take all kinds of a beating, in carb'd form I ran my stock L24 to over 8k revs and never hurt it, the max/810 used a lower compression head and fuel injection other than that it's the same engine used in the 240Z, you can bolt a 2.8 in place or even add the 81-83 280ZX turbo motor with littel effort, if it's not ate up with rust buy it ! us datsun geeks love finds like this

Actually, bolting up a L28E/ET in a 810 or 910 (RWD Maxima) is not that easy. The L24E used in these cars have the oil pan sump in a different location than the other engines due to the steering setup. I once thought about doing this with my 810 but it would involve some machine work on the bottom end of the L28E/ET to allow the pickup to work with the L24E oil pan.

where si the sump on the L24E? most of the Z's had a mid sump but the 81-83 turbo used a rear sump, and they share a pickup

Check out this thread. Post #12 by Zcarnut talks about the diferences and how to modify the block to use the 810/Maxima pan.
