Hello, I am currently looking at buying a 94 Q, My big concern is the car has about 300k on it (180ish miles) I have read the buying guide, just wondering if there is anything i should be looking for that is Q specific?Everything seems pretty good, problem is i cant see the car unless i drive a few hours , but i can get the car delivered.I can get the car for a very good price so there will be money for repairs,i know the fluids ect will be changed, i will also be looking at the brakes and the Susp.

Thanks for any help

Paul

You got it. Plan on replacing everything. Service history is paramount, so if it is incomplete, walk away.

Every 15 year old Q45 we have done a paid prebuy inspection on prior or after purchase has needed $3,000 to $12,000* in repairs to return all systems to as new. Most are in the middle of range with actives and TCS cars at higher amounts in range.

* based on $85 per hour and retail/MSRP parts.

After midlife [150k] things like diffs, driveshafts, transmission, ac systems fail and need replacing. Most have brake, steering, and suspension exhaustion.

Sorry to tell you that there is no such thing as a Q45 for a very good price.

Whatever you budget for repairs, double it .

To really bring a Q45 to oem spec it will cost a small fortune and it won't be worth it.

It makes a lot of sense to buy another car for parts.

If it has rust, run.

If you're looking for a daily driver and are on a tight budget, try a different car.

Now that that is out of the way, if you do buy it, best of luck. This forum is the best place in the world for help and the guys here are a class act. If it hadn't met them I'd be lost and owe them much gratitude.

Regarding teh car you're considering:

The car does not have 340hp . I question how much servicing the owner has done in the last 6 years since he only talks about the specs of the car that everyone already knows rather than a long list of maintenance and repairs that are what's really important. Don't forget there is a dent in the fender.

I'm only writing this to prepare you and possibly protect you from making a decision based on emotion and falling for the allure of a big luxury car for cheap, instead of being equipped with knowledge and logic. Keep in mind that Hyatt and Ericksen may be close, but parts won't be cheap.

If I can help you in a way, let me know. My email is [email protected]

The car he's considering is a TCS model.

I'll jump out here in contrast to the regulars around here and say that yes, it IS possible to get a G50 in good shape that doesn't need a lot of work. 3-12K in work is a fairly high estimate, but that's if you want to keep it OEM and brand-new quality like most here do.

But, keeping a Q45 running at all is going to cost you a lot more than other cars when things go wrong. Service is a b**** to find for anything other than the basics, unless you're in a city with an Infiniti dealership. The electronics on the G50's are proprietary, so you need a CONSULT cable and can't get away with ODBII. You'll find yourself relying on people here to get any good information you can't glean yourself from the service manual or online tech articles - whichever articles haven't already been rendered useless by dead links or pictures.

Unless you're able to get this car for less or equal to what you think you could sell it for where you are once it's delivered, get in your current transport and drive out to it. And yes, if you see rust, run.

I'm fortunate that my Q survived it's first 15 years (5/94 production) without any rust at all, and no major mechanical issues other than worn shocks and some things that were replaced before I got it. But I've been far luckier than most here have been, as my folks who owned it previously were meticulous with the maintenance.

Thanks for all the info, I am expecting to have a repair bill, i am more than capable of fixing most things myself.

Things that concern me is yes there is alot of talk on the "specs" and not the history of the car, The dent does not worry me too much i have a great body guy.

I just dont want to buy this thing and it be a total nightmare.

Hmm Decisions eh

Thanks again

It's all about verifiable maintenance history, condition, and the Infiniti Senior Technician's pre-purchase inspection report.

Best for you to get him to pay you to take it if you can.
