There is a 1992 Q at the local dealer that has been there for over two years. It was in the back close to the dumpster and the car detailing area forever. But, with the advent of the Gs Ms and FXs, they had to move it across the street to an abandoned restaurant's parking lot with the I35s. This Q has been there for over two years for certain, I know because I go to the lot atleast once a month to gawk.

1992 Q45, Black with Gray interior, 142k. The leather on the front seats has been redone withjin the last two months to spark interst I guess but the clear coat is fading in many places due to exposure. Rumor has it that a new engine was put in.

What are the dangers of having a car sitting around for that long? What type of problems could it have as a result? I've been offering 2.5-3k for over a year but they think they can get 6500 for it. Let me know what the sitting has done to it so I can continue to bargain.

They can't get 6500 for it.

I think offering 3k is fair considering you knows its been sitting and they really need to move it.tell them that u know its been sitting.

After sitting for so long you will likely be looking at a new AC and some gasketsin the engine.

It would hurt to look at the coolant real closely either. It will need new shocks as well.

I recently bought a car thats been sitting 18 months, but it did not need new AC (I was surprised) and is working well for last 6 month just on a re-charge.

It'll need likely new transmission fluid as well.

some leaks likely have formed due to gasket drying on various seals, could be mior but still likely to need some attention.

I wouldnt reject the car if teh price is right.

Fred...:)

Invite them to NICO.

We'll make SURe they're aware of what that car is worth.

I'd give $2500, considering it's gonna need some immediate rehab.

That said, it'd be good to have you on as a Q owner!!

Yep, the dealer's smokin' something funny. Hopefully they drive it around at least once a month...that would help a few things last longer. The gas in the tank, fuel lines, rail and injectors will go bad...all the volatiles will evaporate, leaving behind varnish deposits. If they ever call you up with an acceptance, point out how much worse off the car is now than when you started making offers, and drop your price.

Expect to pay about 1000 to get it DRIVEABLE...... There will be so many things rotted from sitting.....

Ask them how often they drove it..... If it was driven, say, every couple weeks and allowed to get up to operating temp, then id say go for it.....

No more than about 4500.....

If the leather has been redone, chances are its been done in vinyl, not real leather...... Which means you will have some severe fuse-age of the legs to the seat in the summer....... :D

Believe me, I have a boat, and its not fun.......

Even if it has a new engine in it, that doesnt really mean diddily.......

A Q is meant to be DRIVEN, not to be show car (although it is good at that also!)

Gotta tell you... Q2 has been sitting for quite a while (bought her in 2001) and most of the suspension I'm taking off isn't that much different than what's going on... seemed pretty tight before the rehab, but I heard a squeak or two when it was really cold back in December and decided that there's no sense in tracking it down part by part. Overall looked really good though! I'd drive the car and see what you think... if it feels good, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
