So if I get this beautiful car with its fancy navigation system, is there a way to add external video sources to the navigation (Car PC, DVD, Etc?). A way that is, besides the 500-600 OEM Nav TV switcher boxes available around the net? I relatively electronically inclined and definately up for a wiring challenge if I know its possible. Thanks,-Phillip-

This has been asked before, and I don't think we ever got a good answer. You may have better success in the G35 forum.

I will say FWIW, that after West Coast Customs getting busted for some video install/safety by-pass stuff, fewer and fewer people are willing to do this kind of thing.

Well, not exactly encouraging but thanks for the reply.

Here's some info I've found...

Quote »I have seen this posted here several times so I thought I would provide some feedback. I have looked at the wiring schematics and it seems it would be very simple to get your stock Nav display to play videos. All it would require is a seperate DVD player for about 200 bucks and a video source selector. The source selector can connect two video sources in at an "A" and "B" port using just about any video connection type, SVideo, RCA etc....Put the source selector some place you can easily reach it and connect the video cable that runs from the DVD nav player to the Nav Display and connect from the player to the source selector port "A". Then connect a third party DVD player/TV receiver in to port "B". Then connect a video cable from the out port on the video selector to the Nav screen. When you want the Navigation to display on the screen push the "A" button on your source selector. When you want video, push the "B" button. Not for me but it could be done very cheaply provided that the video cables are some sort of standard connection, which they should be. The only thing I am doing to mine is a supercharger when it becomes available and a stereo at the end of the month.I will post pics when I am done. I am doing MB Quart speakers, an Alipne 5 channel amp and two JL 10s that will consume less than half the trunk space. It will sound amazing and be completely invisible.
Quote »I don't have the wiring diagram here but I am almost certain it went right from the DVD player to the display. Regardless, just put the source selector in the video pathway to the display and connect a third party DVD player to the other port and you will be set. I got the schematic off this site or freshalloy.com but it did not show the physical type of the cable. I will check soon and let you know but I am 95% confident they will be standard. There would be no reason for them to deviate when their or so many OEM parts out there for displays and DVD navs.I am not a chat room veteran so this picture isn't very good. Forget all the periods in it and just follow the lines from each piece of hardware. It isn't clear but the best I can do.

CURRENT DVD NAV PLAYER.......NEW DVD PLAYER.............l....................................................l.....................<<<<< A ..........Video Source Selector.....B>>>>>>>>> >..................................OUT............................................................................l........................................< <<<<<<< DVD Display Screen >>>>>>>>> >

The source selector will have buttons for you to switch the video to either source A or source B. Here is an example of one with RCA inputs. These have audio to but Fry's and Radio shack have em with just video, I just didn't want to spend the time right now tracking one down on the web.
