New to the forum, in the market for a big SUV and test drove a 2010 QX56 this afternoon with 78K miles. First off, I have been a Chevy guy my entire life. That is, until my 2009 Texas Edition Silverado started burning 3 quarts of oil every 3K miles when it hit about 75K miles. Long story, but GM came up with a bright idea (AFM - active fuel management), that turned out to be NOT such a great idea, and GM of course will not repair it. A class action lawsuit is pending, but I've already decided I won't buy another one. So, what do I need to know about the QX56? It felt great going down the road, tons of features, all the amenities you could possibly want. I know the gas mileage isn't great, but coming from a full size GM truck, and my wife drives a Suburban, this is nothing new to us. This particular one we are looking at is at a CARMAX dealership, seems to have been well taken care of, and I am just trying to get some information from people that are familiar with this type vehicle? I looked up the NADA/KBB value and it came back right around 27K, which is only a grand less than what they are asking for it, so I know it's in the ball park. Anything specific I need to look out for? Any factory recalls I need to check into? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

the armada and qx up to 2010 are built on the same line and are , save some interior comforts/features, the same in terms of maintenance/recalls and such.

you will find more forums on the armada of the same year than the qx so if you are searching online, use 2010 armada to search.

the main thing to look out for will be the manifolds and cats. that year model is solid and well put together.

if you have access to the records/vin, check out the report and see if it was in any water, accidents, etc.

What are the issues with the intake manifolds and cats? Any factory recalls? Are those repairs particularly expensive? Thanks for the quick feedback!

yes they are expensive if you go the dealer route.

there may be some recalls. go to x dot infinitihelp dot com and look there for tsb's. there may be a tsb section on this site, i am not sure.

you can search all over the internet for this. the manifolds can crack and you can hear this certain sound at startup. once the engine warms, this sound usually goes away, this is why when one brings their car in and the tech cranks up a warm engine they dont hear it and thus cant fix it.
its only when it sits overnight at the shop that they can crank the car when its cold and hear the noise.

there may be videos online that try to replicate this sound.
