I am going to look at a 2003 Q45 with 48k miles (76k km). The record shows an accident and the cost of repair was 13k. It's offered for 17k.

I currently have a 2002 Q but would like to upgrade to 2003 or later. I have asked the dealer to give me a copy of repair receipt. He says damage was caused by car hitting the curb.

Should I consider it or is it risky buying such a car?

A $13k repaired wreck will never drive as well as one never wrecked, an expert can find another $10,000 in body repairs [and painting proceedures] that where skipped.

Have it taken to an external precision alignment facility and measure everything and post the results. The FSM contains a page showing the angular dimensions for every body component to aid in rebuilding.

I didn't get the chance to look at it. The car was sold in one day.

Consider it a blessing in disguise.

I decided not to buy it after Q45tech advice. But I am amazed at how fast it was sold. Q45's are hard to sell. Maybe it was the low price.

Hard to say why a car sells and others don't. With all the cars for sale in the world why would anyone buy a known wreck?

Granted that there are auto body repair "guys" that can work wonders with sheet metal but they are on TV re-doing old rides for ?

For the rest of us, it's, bid the repair job as high as possible and do the work as cheap as possible.

There are always car for sale "south of the border" that have never seen snow or that nasty salt used in your neck of the woods. Need a little patience. I did very well on Ebay and found the car, from the area I wanted, deep south, pretty much. I would have liked a Maroon or wine color but there were other considerations and the car I bought is just fine.

Incidentally, is there much of problem for someone living in Canada buying a car from the USA?

Jack
