I'm looking at some 97 and 98 I30's for my girlfriend. What should I look for in these models? Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

It may be harder to find but I would suggest looking for a touring model. The touring models came with a spoiler (Really adds a lot to this particular car) and nicer wheels. I believe the 98's came with side airbags.

I'd go with the '98-99 model. They really shouldn't cost much more than a '97. The '98+ models have better looking tail lights(maybe that sounds trivial but there is enough difference in the appearance to make it really noticeable.) I have a '97 and still wish I had bought the 98. The touring model is essentially a Maxima SE on the 98+ as far as handling goes. There are also subtle interior differences from 97 to 98+. The prices shouldn't be that much different and overall the cars are very similar. Go with the newest and best example you can find. Yes 98+ touring models have side airbags, plus they have limited slip. I forgot to mention that '97 models have a transmission that is a bit of a nuisance. They do not like to downshift especially when you come almost to a stop and then take off again. You have to really step on the gas and then when it does downshift it shifts down hard. It's not a sign of impending trans failure it's just a nuisance. The 98+ models eliminated this issue.
