What do I need to look for when buying this car? How much money do I need to put into it if it has been taken care of relatively well? Any major services or anything that will be very costly(more than a $1,000)

Thanks for anybody who can shed some light on this for me

A good starting point is this link at the top of the Q45 forumhttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/213450

And then you should know the chain guides have been replaced, then take it to a Certified Infiniti Tech and pay for (~$100) a full inspection. That's a good starting point.

Like Rex said. Go through the link he provided courtesy of Wes.

If I were going to buy a Q45, I'd check for:

‡ Service history - was this car serviced regularly?

‡ See if there was any paintwork / accidents

‡ Understand that a tune up, brakes and tires and such can add up, so can you afford to or are you interested in investing the necessary $$

‡ I'd have the car inspected by a knowledgeable, experienced and reputable place to be sure. If that costs $150 for example, it would be better than having to invest thousands in order to save a few $$.

‡ If you have the opportunity, test drive another one to compare, especially if you haven't driven one before

‡ Come back here and ask all the questions you want so that you do buy a good car that you can enjoy. There are many great people here that have strong knowledge of these cars and are as nice as they come. This place is truly a Q45's home, that's for sure.

Btw There are no stupid questions, so ask anything you want.

Thanks for the responses lino and Rex. I guess I will just inspect it and take it to a shop and have it inspected and make sure it hasn't been abused or damaged in some way. They are only asking $3,000 so I am a little weary. I used to own a nice 92 Q45 I got with 53,000 miles back in '04 but sadly I wrecked it in the snow. As you all know they are terrible in the snow. So now I have a little extra cash and want another Q. I'm willing to put about $5,000 into it total at the moment so I need one that's been taken really good care of. We'll see this guy is claiming it's mint so wish me luck and thanks again for your replies.

Honestly, even in great shape, I think $3K is pretty high on the asking price. You should be able to go $500-750 lower than that. Possibly even all the way down to $2K. With all the deferred maintenance you will end up doing after purchase, you'll definitely want to negotiate that price down.

Yeah, he says $3,000 or best offer. so if I have $2,000 in cash I might just take it. I want to put some rims on it after I make sure it's mechanically sound and maybe tint the windows. I also want a bodykit but i don't want to invest that much in it yet for a number of reasons. Thanks again for your replies I hope I can get a Q of some sort, join the ranks on here and post some pics. I also found a Q that looks to be in good shape with 90,000 miles for $500 but it needs a transmission and the cheapest transmission I have found is $800 plus labor so idk about all that.

What about a b&b cold air intake and electric supercharger? I want to gain a few horespower and am having a little difficulty finding much selection for older Q45 as far as intakes and such. What are your opinions on such things?

The general consensus is that if your Q is running in top notch shape, you'll be happier than the little to no help you'd get from either of those items.

A well running Q with the right tire (snow for winter, summer performacen for warm weather) and good shocks/brakes is a very nice dirving car. Compromise any of these and the performance/drive-ability will suffer.

That's funny that they advertise these items to improve hp so much I thought it might make the car more fun to drive. Your right why mess up a good thing. I guess I was just trying to add something to make mine a little different but I dont want to do that if it is going to compromise the before mentioned attributes.

That's a pretty sweet Q you got there. I'm no expert but I thought NOS put alot of unwanted strain on the engine. Looks like yours is suited for that. Well done.

I think you need to read a little more to understand the importance of the Infiniti Dealer Performed Servvice history ( and other service records) and that the inspection should be done by a Senior Infiniti Technician (read more if you don't know the precise definition) and not just some shop that has little or no idea of what a G50 is or how it works.

Check it on a rack and for body corrosion and all fluids visually. Good luck.

You have a lot of reading to do. Start with all posts by Q45tech. It will take a while, so do an hour or so every night.

Get a Q45 running in tune and you probably won't ask for more power. If you want more, consider a NICO ECU. Spending money on increasing horsepower on a Q that's not running optimum in my opinion is just a waste.

You will save yourself thousands of dollars and some serious heartache. And you will be able to monitor intelligently the work you do not perform on your car, be it a Q45 or another.

Good Luck!

As above, the best advice is to have a Sr. Ininiti tech look at it. Call your local dealers and use the one that has the most experience with G50s.

$3,000 for a 93 with 85K that's sorted out is a steel. $3,000 for one that is not--is average to couple hundred high. Its right in the ballpark though.

I paid $3500 for a 92 Q with 83,+000 miles on it. Was that a good deal? The dealer wanted 4900. I was like "In your bra! I'm not paying that".

So far the only maintenance I've had to do on my Q was an oil change, because my oil was dirty and dark. The engine runs great, and all is well except for an occasional fuel smell (but that went away after I changed the oil). The most major thing I have to do is check my guides and see if they've been changed or not.

Still don't know how to remove the front panel to check the guides
