I am currently considering buying a 2000 Maxima SE, is there anything I should be aware of before I buy it? I believe it has all the upgrades but it is a manual transmission. I have been doing some reading and found a lot of people talking about the ignition coils being problems.. is this something I can test for on a test drive or what should I do to check for it.

I am currently driving a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT which just turned 200k miles and has a bunch of problems that I cant afford to fix.

Thank you

Welcome to NICO!

Unfortunately, there's not really any way to know if you have bad coils until they start to fail, at which time you'll see obvious symptoms like rough running. The VQ is a VERY smooth motor, so it'll be obvious during the test drive if there's a coil issue.Other issues that are more common with the car are similar "minor" electronic/electrical issues, like faulty knock sensors or MAF sensors.

Aside from that, the car should treat you extremely well. They're very stout mechanically (no common mechanical issues to speak of), especially the manual transmission cars. You should see well over 200,000 miles if you keep up with basic maintenance and treat it well.

Rotors get warped too - quite easily - you will tell if there is vibration on brake pedal..

just my .02...
