well, to make a long story short, i was helping a friend move out of a place he rented, and i went into the garage to unhook the washer and dryer, when i noticed what looked to be a fresh ka24e head sitting on his work bench, i asked about it and he said that he had a 89 hatch in the past that he had turboed, but he had overboosted it and fried the pistons ( thats an understatement) well he proceded to show me all of his 240 stuff that he still had. At this point i had already decided that i wanted his turbo set up. Over a few beers and some cleaning he told me that i could have the turbo set up for 300 bucks... however i would have to take all of his other 240 stuff. DEAL! i took it all away that afternoon, and there was a lot of stuff:) alot of which was useless and got thrown in the spare bedroom of my house. Well... on to the pics :chuckle:
the usefull bits
Image
this 60 trim is like new, no shaft play, or anything, i was told it was only on for 1500 miles, and i believe the dude
Image
here she is with a home made log manifold
Image
Image
some 380 cc injectors with fuel rail
Image
Image
this is the head, it has damage in one cylinder, i dont think its an issue though, complete oem rebuild with 1500 miles on it
Image
Image
heres the close up of the damage, should i be worried?
Image
Image
came with a ecu, that is apparently already tuned for the set up. i need to varify this for sure though
Image
looks like i have another diff, that makes 3, may weld this one, i currently have 2 j30s too
Image
box of crap, intercooler piping, clutch fan, intake mani, etc
Image
more boxes
Image
single cam harness, that appears to be uncut. am i right?
Image
snagged these things too :rotfl
Image
heres the piston that blew up, what would cause this? he told me he popped it at 15 psi when it was tuned for 8:/
Image
upon closer inspection i noticed another piston cracked
Image
so, i think i made out like a bandit for 300 dollars. i guess ill be swapping out my de for a single slamma!!! i think im going to find a block, and buy a rebuild kit and do it right. hopefully i can come out spending less than a grand without cutting corners :)i probably wont have a build thread for a few months though, my car is in dire need of a suspension set up, so i will do that the same time as the motor build, which unfortionately cant be now bc i am busy with my engineering job working on radio telescopes :squint: aka saving for the build
AND i want to make more power than a stock sr just because i can :mike

well the turbo is not bad for the price. looks like one of the old T28 potato turbo. I would still rebuild it. don't know about that manifold. should go for a twin scroll. remember you still need maf, injectors, IC and piping, tune, oil lines.

haha that does look good, but i agree, seems like it would be easier unless your de is messed up to just sell and save.

yeah, i thought about the sr swap a lot obviously, but i thought that this deal was a good one, i have basically everything save for the intercooler and piping, i have a variety of mafs, and in the box i found the old oil and coolant lines that go to the turbo. the 24e has a lot of potential too, ive been lurking on ka-t.org. my next step is to source a longblock for cheap and a rebuild kit for it.
