Look what I got...

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Contemplating on putting this SHO 3L V6 into a nissan S chassis, already modified for RWD. Would be an interesting project, but I doubt it will ever go anywhere. If I ever do though, I'll be sure to let you guys know. I have two of these Yamaha's sitting in the garage.

danm it!!!! you beat me to it. i was thinking of taking out my sbc and doing this. well gone so far as to line up parts and compile all necessary swap info.

on thing i found, oil pan modification is necessary, and its aluminum. hope you can weld good (welding cast al can be a pita)

anyhow if you do it good luck! they are really good engines when built properly, and imho the coolest looking engine built.

Well the engine above is slated to go into an old Ford Falcon which was pretty much built by a friend of the family. He found an old Falcon with a decent frame, gutted it, strengthened the chassis, and used the body panels from another Falcon. It was recently painted a nice blue (with the matching engine cover there). So far he has 4 wheel disc brakes, a rear axel sourced from a Mustang, the SHO seats for the interior, a 4 speed automatic from a Ford Aerostar, and a few others things.

The other SHO engine that I would be using in the S chassis is identical to this one (without the painted top, of course) and came from a half-cut I managed to acquire for no money whatsoever. Said friend of the family modified it for RWD knowing I had this in mind. It would be a big project, but I'd love how those 200 NA horses would feel. Unfortunately, the 5 speed transmission from the halfcut is in pretty bad shape, so I'd definitely need one of those, after rebuilding the engine, of course. Just didn't have a pic of the unpainted one, so I posted that one. Same thing, really. Mess or wiring, engine, fuel tank, gauge cluster, etc.

In the previous post user the momo left a link to a thread with a guy putting one of these into a healey. In said thread it shows how the guy adapted the transverse layout to a rear-wheel setup. well i was wondering if the 3.4 v8 sho available in later models has the same bellhousing? And would it be adaptable to a t-5 or like? As the v-8 also has a nice redline of 7000 rpm and i am sure with a little tuning it could go higher. Just sounds like a good swap, just was wondering a few details. Thanks for any info!!!

No idea about the V8, I only knew about that original V6.

v8 is a different animal altogether and imho not worth it compared to the 6.

that being said, any motor can be mated to any trans with enough time and money. youll need a trans adaptor plate (custom made no doubt) and a custom clutch, maybe a custom flywheel and then line everything up (starter, input shaft, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, etc) search for what bellhousings mate up to the block, chances are you can find parts that will redily bolt on.

but iirc the v8 sho only came auto so finding manual parts ( i would assume) might be tough....good luck.

yeah after that post i did some searching on google. and i found out some stuff about that engine. other than the fact that it is harder to swap to a rear wheel setup, the engine itself isnt very good. the camshafts are crap. for some reason everyone planning on makeing any power have to weld them.

i searched a little more on the 3.0 and found that the ranger or b3000 mazda trucks bell housing both bolt up. and then from there you can adapt them to t-5, or a t-56. which is pretty sweet. and the motors themselves can be had for pretty cheap. i've already found 3 motors for under 300$.

and t-5 transmission's are a dime a dozen around my area. lots of old fox bodies in the junks.
