i believe that's the tach signal wire running to the cluster

The yellow/red wire on the plug leads to the tach on the cluster, that wire is the start signal to the ECU from the ign switch if I remember right....

those that wired the rb20 in their 91+ s13, did you use this orange wire for the ignition?

Orange wire is "ignition start signal" in 240sx FSM.
