You've been working since you were 11? In the foodservice industry? As what?

You do what you need to survive. If you won't "degrade" yourself when you need to, because you will need to at some point in your life, you'll end up homeless. Personally I would be proud to work at McDonalds if it meant me not being homeless. And, maybe the man likes his job? Whos to say he isn't a big shot manager? Have you read the managerial benefits of a McDonalds? Company car, stock options, 401k and they make damn good money, if I remember correctly it was close to 60k a year. That's not so degrading to me.

The one that you've been doing since you were 11?

I own a restaurant. I have hired some friends and even some relatives. Not coming to work for more than 3 days without notice, regardless of their affiliation with me or my family, are grounds for termination or "involuntary resignation". You may not have been officially "fired" ,per say, by the owner but you've definitely been removed from the payroll, therefore, terminated. Only an irresponsible person would just to walk away without any formal resignation from an establishment that gave the opportunity to start work. I don't care if you personally know the owner, the decent thing to do is to let him/her know that you no longer intend to work for them.

Your bullsheit is piling up to your eyeballs. Quit while you're still ahead.

i knew the original owner they owed 2 local carvels they sold the one i worked at and they gave me and my sis the opportunity to switch stores or work for the new guy we both stayed cause it was close to home. as u can pretty much predict he had his sons and daughters working there and they pretty much did nothing.(he had like 12 kids no joke) the guy also had the cameras hooked up so he could watch them from his house and he would call and ask how much the customer spent, he was a real creep. we went on vacation and when we got back i wasent on the schedule for the next few weeks so i figured i wasent wanted. my sister stayed for 3 more weeks and then quit and started working at 7-eleven. after that the last of the 2 other people that stayed left and he had his family running it maybe he just wanted it family run idk. i never knew what happened i was going to school and working at carvel at the age of 12 me and my sister closed the store everynight cleaned the machines ect then on the week ends my sister and i would open at 10am and close at 12pm. yes we had the keys to the store and we had the alarm code i guess we were very trust worthy 12 and 13 year olds wouldent u say

Terminated! You know that your boss doesn't exactly have to say "You're fired!" to be fired right?

I've used the term "job abandonment" on forms I've had to fill out at work for similar circumstances. My favourite part is the "ineligible for rehire" flag that gets attached to the file so we don't have to deal with them again.

The fact that he did not put you back in the schedule for the next two weeks tells you that your services are no longer needed in his establishment. And for him to omit calling you back to work again from your "vacation" concludes that you have been terminated, laid off, dismissed, whatever you want to call it. The fact of the matter is that you no longer work there, period.

*edit* After 6 long years of working in the industry, you should know how things go in the restaurant business. People (employees) are expendable.

Go back and show up in uniform after 5 years? Are you smoking crack? You'd be lucky if the owner doesn't have you thrown out after what you did.

1) You didn't get fired (like you said). 2) You didn't quit (like you said). You walked away from your job.

yeah workin at mcdonalds is pretty degrading but you gotta do what you gotta do ya know. if i could find another job i would but i live in a small town with more people than jobs. plus i cant work at any of the factories around here because i'm not 18 so that rules out about half of the jobs arond here.
