OK, I will be the first among us who is similarly ignorant of this subject, LOL. What on earth is an HFC? To me, it's a measurement of hydroflourocarbon content in a given chemical solution or compound. Somehow I don't think that is what you are on about.

I've had them on my car and posted the thread and video, but I'd have to look at the specific dates.

Installed on? 06 M35 sport

Brand? BERK - bought used thru G35 forums (direct fitment)

Install date? late 2012/early 2013 ???

Installation issues? none - direct replacement of the stock catalytic converters

Fitted to stock exhaust parts? I had them matched up with the stock ypipe and several aftermarket ypipes - works best with Motordyne xyz pipe with resonator and/or HFC module.

Sound? (Specific to rasp or rattles) no rattles. I only found slight rasp when fitted to stock ypipe due to larger diameter of HFC vs stock diameter of ypipe. No rasp when fitted to 2.5" diameter ypipe inlets.

Still using? removed them since my son was using my car to learn how to drive.

**I'd recommend going with Fast Intentions HFC - the resonated HFC's. They are one of the best in the market. No rasp, deep sound...but you gotta pay to play

Thanks so much for the info. I've reached out to FI. Hoping they have a local reseller.

I picked up the Fast Intentions resonated cats. When I receive them I'll post some pics and write up some info. Unfortunately they take a $100 non-refundable deposit, take 2-3 weeks to build, then ship. I may see them by Christmas. It's okay because I have to pass emissions testing in January so it should be just in time. I am wondering if the emissions shop will say something about the J-bent O2 sensor attachement. What do you guys think?

nice pick up :dblthumb:

does the emissions test shop put the car on a lift? that's the only way I can imagine them viewing the cats... I think the important thing is to get the car tuned (stock tune) when doing the emissions test.

I picked up a use set of kinetix high flow cats from a buddy of mine. He had them on his z for about 3 years and then i had them on my car for another 2 years.

I recently did smog with them and the car barely passed. Will probably taking them off and selling them.

Installed on? - August 2012
Brand? - Kinetix
Installation issues? - No issues whatsover
Fitted to stock exhaust parts? - Fitted to HR y pipe and fujitsubo exhaust just fine
Sound? (Specific to rasp or rattles) - Very raspy from around 2k-3k
Still using? - Yes, but will be removing

i didn't notice any power gains but then again the car is not my daily.

what if I have changed it multiple times since 2012? lol

First set - Stillen - best sound, beast mode, got rattle and O2 warnings after 3k miles (also after destroying the f*** when bottoming out)

Second Set Invidia - raspy - could not get the O2 to die regardless of bung - sold to a Z boy after 500 miles

Third Set some resonated test pipes, dont remember the brand - they were fine I suppose, little raspy, few thousand miles

Fourth set , made my own with vibrant race muffler - raspy as f*** but was a test anyways.

Fifth set, just some straight through test pipes, deleted secondary O2's input wideband, everything a-okay - but hard to tell sound difference post headers install as everything is loud now.

If I was NA - stillen all the way.

Everyone of them has a bottom end power loss until tuned. HFCs have better bottom, test pipes better top - barely noticeable.

Installed today. Still too early to tell if these will work well. I definitely concur with fatboy about loosing low end, but damn top end is nuts now. Sound, I'm still not sure if it's due to the y pipe but there is a drone. It's only noticeable during normal acceleration at around 3k up. It sounds more like a z or g stock exhaust. It has lowered the tone nicely. I'm pleased so far. Installation was good, not eventful at all. Manifold gasket was reused and all bolts replaced except for the stud welded to the manifold bolt. It bolted up perfectly to the beluga racing g37 y pipe. The factory cat brace is not used and the sensor wires were zip tied to the body since because of the o2 sensor bung placement the wires no longer fit within the factory hangers. I don't see this as an issue unless you use inferior zip ties. Perhaps ss wire would be a better option.

I will mention that during startup and first highway drive the car really smelled bad. The asbestos was burning out of the resonators so until that completes expect the smell. It does get into the car when standing still. Also noticed a noise like a loud clank that occurs but I don't know if it's associated or if it's something new. Prior to installation I contemplated wrapping these parts with thermaltec what do others here think of that idea?
