i already purchased a turbo kit for my car but havent installed it yet. i was wondering if it is safe to go on long trips in a turbocharged car? i travel to see my gf across the state. its about a 7 hour drive and i usually do it all in one day. does that affect the turbo?

not really. as your cruising the turbo isnt spooling unless u make it. its jsut putting more miles on everything. driving easy will have just as much effect on the turbo as it would the altenator. wont really hurt it but eventually things wear out

ok someone has to start making things that do not wear out. like condoms. or tires. who wants to invest?

dont think that would be too comfortable, but some stainless steel tojans would look purtty

and tire like that might be good for drifting

I stranded myself in SanDiego once. if your going far out of your way, just drive normally while youre there. stay out of boost. somethings going to happen, sometime. trust me.

thats why i always bring tools with me. the one day i left my tools at home, including my hydraulic jack, i blew a intercooler pipe off!! i had to limp to a gas station running pig rich and had to borrow a screw driver.

i learned my lesson from then on. no matter how well my car runs with the tools in it, i will always be jinxed if i take them out. so my car is now about 100 lbs heavier from all the tools and the jacks

yea it helps to have beads around the ends on intercooler piping, geo never even touched an IC pipe tho, haha.

they can still fly off if the clamp isnt perfected seated. also screw clamps dont hold nearly as well as t-bolts

don't trust it!! it will always come off when your not prepared. my intercooler pipes always poped off at the worst locations.

1) on the FDR drive where there is no shoulder!!!

2) when my friend drove it and he thought hte broke the car. lolz

3) when i had no tools

and also my pipes are flaired at the ends. however it only blew off when i had cheap rubber couplings. now that i switched to silicon i haven't poped one off yet. but you can still never be too sure.

well i only have t-bolts from turbo-hotpipe, hotpipe-IC, IC-coldpipe. these are kinda hard angles with my piping and would blow off. they have now held 19psi. screw clamps have been used on the other pipe that line up perfectly

I blew a pipe going around somebody that was doing like 15mph under the speed limit. Didn't even hit 3psi and it blew off. Funny thing is I had just got done doing a little spirited driving. Rubber couplings BTW.

As for a road trip, I would probably put all the tools I have in the back of my hatch. Tool box and all. Just back the car up to a deck and roll that tool box right into the back of my car. Take no chances.
