From the moment I was old enough to drive (1978) I've coveted, owned, built, driven, lived, and breathed Nissan. My name has been on the pink slips of everything from a 68, 510 to a 06, Q45. The thread that runs trough this long affair with Nissan is an obsession with the Datsun 510. Being that a grew up in a neighborhood saturated by big American muscle, something about the little underdog mythology surrounding the 510 really struck a cord. Owning a Japanese car in this pro-Americana environment however made me the brunt of many jokes, and so was born my rebellious passion for the light and nimble Five & Dime. At 19 years old I had built a little L20b 2 door sedan affectionately known as the Camero slayer, and from then on I served my neighbors up with generous helpings of their own words.
After 20 years of marriage, and two kids, those memories seemed like the story of someone else's life. By then I was relegated to driving a Pathfinder with nary an upgrade, or modification. But, as fate would have it, about two Years ago I get a call from out of the blue. It was my younger brother "Hey Ron, I bought us a car. It's a built up rolling chassis of a 510 race car and I think we should finish the job... What do you say?". I was all in, but in order to compete on the modern car scene an L20b wouldn't cut it, and neither of us new the first thing about all the new fangled turbo stuff. I knew this extensive SR20DET swap would had a steep learning curve, but we sorely under estimated the pound of flesh it actually took. It's tested the resolve of our pocketbooks and the very fabric of our sibling relationship. I'm proud to say that although the car is far from finished, our Opus 510 is on the road and under testing. For anyone interested, there's a full account of the trials and tribulations that got us here to date. This is a link to our build thread on the510realm.com site.

The reason I'm here is to tap into and learn from a larger SR20 community. We were hoping to get more out of our stock import motor. As heartbreaking as it is to report, it's become obvious we've payed top $ for a bunch of crappy work on the car, only to find we got a tired SR block from our "reputable" JDM importer. And so we need to start searching for a suitable alternative. I look forward to getting to know the folks here, and getting a broader perspective on either build up the motor we have, or finding a 2.2 stroker that will meet our Hp needs.
