I searched all the topics with "starting" in it, but nothing resembled my problem.

I had some remanufactured injectors installed at the end of December '04 to replace the leaking OEM's in my 1990 240sx. Once the car is running, it's great, smoother than before. It's just getting it started that is the problem.

Let me first say that the car has always started, it just take about 3 seconds of cranking followed by some short sputtering (very embarrassing when there are people around ). I had Nissan install them with all the new O-rings. The injector company recommended getting the fuel rail, intake, etc cleaned after installation. We waited until today to get that done just to see if the problem would fix itself.

After having the fuel system service done (never been done before on the car so that's why we did it), it still starts poorly. A member from another Nissan board suggested that the O-rings might be leaking air causing a vacuum leak, but one the car warms up, the O-rings fill the gaps. I am no expert by any means, but that makes sense to me.

Comments?

Note: the dealer did say they would take it apart again to make sure everything was done right, so at least I can always fall back on that.

does pressing the gas help at all during startup?

No. I also tried priming the pump by turning the ignition to the ON position a few times.

I did get that fuel system cleaning service, and it did seem to help as the car now starts pretty normal after sitting overnight. It will still hesitate a little if it sits about 20 minutes between starts. So it's better, but not 100% yet.

We are going to give it another week to improve, then it's back to Nissan for them to try it again.

Note. The service writer tried to tell me they were sticking because the injectors were remanufactured. I guess he forgot that he told me that another 240sx was in for the same repair, and that car did the same things as mine. The only catch was that the other car got new Nissan injectors. So much for the remanufactured injectors as the problem....

maybe try adding some starting fluid or carb cleaner before startup. it may be a lean start issue.
